HealthWORKS Newcastle provides support for people wanting to make positive changes to maintain or improve their health across Newcastle. My role involved working with colleagues across the health system to deliver improvements that enhanced the effectiveness and efficiency of both the NHSBSA and related processes and pathways. I was responsible for two primary streams of work within the NHSBSA: the Pacific Programme and the Information Technology and Infrastructure Services (ITIS) Programme.The Pacific Programme was a whole system transformation initiative tasked with delivering £1bn of savings from the end to end processes in which the NHSBSA plays a part. The Programme is delivered as a service, specifically created for this purpose, with approaches, processes and systems tailored to the work being delivered.Working closely with colleagues across all NHSBSA service streams, NHS England, the Department of Health and other health sector partners, Pacific involved the identification, design and implementation of solutions that will achieve significant savings whilst also maintaining or improving outcomes for patients. As Head of Programme, I was resposible for the planning, management and delivery of all aspects of the initiative, reporting to a Board with representation from across the DH and NHS. During my time at the NHSBSA, the programme had already identified over £1bn of efficiency savings; of those, initiatives already in delivery were on track to deliver over £400m of savings along with a number of other improvements that will benefit both the patient and taxpayer. The remainder were initiatives still being developed.The ITIS Programme was concerned with the replacement and enhancement of all of the NHSBSA's IT infrastructure services and the contracts through which they are delivered. ITIS was designed to ensure the continuity of NHSBSA services and also provide the platform for their redesign and digitisation over the following 3 to 5 years.
