Food insecurity in the Elgin area has been a growing problem for many years. There are dozens of organizations that serve as food pantries for this population of people in need. Food For Greater Elgin was organized to become the leader in the Elgin Community for food distribution. The organization has grown from offering mobile food trucks to a school 1 or 2 times a month to utilizing a 10K Square Foot warehouse offering a best in class client choice food model. Today we serve over 6000 people MONTHLY 1/2 of which of children. The organization is so efficient that we can overfill a shopping cart with enough food to feed a family of 4 for a week fro $20. The food our clients select from include canned goods, frozen meats, fresh bread & vegetables, milk, and fruit. We also offer other support services to help this population get back on their feet. We receive no state funding and are supported form our Local Donor Base. In 2018 we were recognized by the Northern Illinois Food Bank as one of their top 5 distribution partners and model agency. Today the pantry is open 20 hours a week and serves 4 times more food than all of the other pantries in Elgin combined. FFGE serves a resource for many other NFP's in the Elgin Area.

The Voters of Elgin elected me to fill a 2 year term to the Elgin City Council in 2009. I have been challenged with this exciting role of helping navigate the City through the worst recession in my lifetime. in the last 2 years the City has established a new pay ordinance which saved the taxpayers over $4M in benefit costs and has reduced the workforce by 80 positions. In the last year the City has secured a sustainable funding source for Economic Development which has allowed us to retain and attract business from around the Globe. Under this Council the City has reduced its workforce, not raised taxes, and constantly provides a high level service. Other highlights include securing Grants of $1.8M from the U.S Dept of Forestry and funding for the Art Space project in Downtown Elgin. This position allowed me to get out of my comfort zone, expand my knowledge about governmental operations and to be accountable to the voters.

I enjoyed serving as the President of the Rotary Club of Elgin for the 2009-10 Rotary year. The exciting year was capped off with a trip to the International Convention in Birmingham England.

When I was 12 my Dad and I started a Chimney Sweeping service. I was excited to work with him at night and on the weekend. I learned much about how to deal with people, gained an incredible work ethic, and learned how to run and operate a business. When I was 12 I was the youngest Certified Chimney Sweep in the United States and Canada and was highlighted on the Bozo Show. the business evolved into Lawn and Snow maintenance to over 50 weekly accounts while I was in High School. I sold the business in 1992 right before getting married. It was a very special time in my life to be with my Dad. I continue to have a passion for success and entrepreneurship that was sparked by my Dad.
