Reporting for the BBC in the southwest, initially for BBC News Online and later for BBC Radio Jersey,I built a strong record of breaking exclusive news across platforms with a commitment to digital and social media.At BBC Radio Jersey I conceived and executed a digital project called Jersey 360, which took our audience on virtual 360-degree tours of locations not open to the public, eg, the top of a power station chimney, or the local air traffic control tower.The series attracted 250,000 views, generated enormous engagement and doubled the station's Facebook reach.

On my return to Dow Jones I edited and wrote for Dow Jones Banking Intelligence.I also regularly wrote, blogged and appeared on-screen for other Newscorp titles, including The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones Newswires and Marketwatch.Our team added fast-paced commentary to breaking news, as well as in-depth, off-radar analysis of the key companies and leading trends in the M&A, debt and equity markets.My commentary focused on the energy, resources, transport, and industrial sectors.

In January 2012 I took over Lloyd's Loading List and IFW: two titles in the Lloyd's List group which merged in May that year.Editing Lloyd's Loading List and IFW gave me a clear sense of how I think publications should respond to their audiences: with honesty, intelligence and style.In practical terms, I amassed a wide-ranging experience of working to budget, commissioning content and design, and dealing with every level of internal and external stakeholder.Presented with a falling readership, I eliminated press release-driven news, introduced intelligent reporting, and wrote and commissioned irreverent and insightful columns. All while deploying more digital-friendly content and keeping a close eye on our (improving) analytics.I also led the redesign of our print publication and engaged our readers with social media, email and SMS, not to mention getting out of the office to meet them.

In essence this was a customer service role but with a very broad remit ranging from dealing with routine programme queries to helping people with sensitive personal problems. It was fast, fun and very satisfying.
