My name is Mike Wight and I am the Founder and Director, alongside my partner Hilary Wight, of Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools, BC’s premier children’s theatre program. We teach musical theatre fundamentals that help students shine on stage and in all aspects of their lives – from building confidence and self-esteem to improving their public speaking.Having moved to Canada from the UK with the aim of enjoying the Canadian great outdoors, Hilary and I noticed a lack of high quality theatre and dance programs for kids in the Lower Mainland – an industry that is well-established in our native England.With backgrounds in the arts and in-service provision, we have been running theatre programs in Vancouver since 2006, creating Lights Up in 2016. We provide weekly musical theatre classes, after school programs and week-long seasonal camps for children and teens aged between 3 and 18 years of age.We have built a highly profitable business over the last five years. Starting with 25 students, we have grown to more than 1,100 children attending our programs each week. We have developed our classes to be professional, structured and welcoming to everyone, regardless of background. And we provide high quality training and varied experiences for our students throughout the year, leading to consistently high levels of client satisfaction from the families of our students.The results speak for the themselves.
