Laboratory lead responsible for scheduling efforts of other team members, as well. Responsible for managing the facility needs for a research building of up to 27 employees, including equipment management and calibration, stock management, safety programs, and interaction with University service staff. Also involved in the commission and maintenance of a BSL3 laboratory in the building, permit applications, and inventory control of BSL3 organisms according to Federal regulations.

Investigated the relationship between chromatin structure, repetitive sequences, and gene function in a Drosophila system using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis and fluorescent-antibody cell sorting, resulting in several publications and abstracts. Also, generated genetically unique Drosophila strains using microinjection of embryos and maintained all strains of Drosophila used by the laboratory.

Studied the link between cell receptors, cell-signaling pathways, and cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and pancreas utilizing library screening, recombinant DNA techniques, cell culture, and tumor tissue from patients and a mouse model system.

Investigated the transcription factors involved in binding the LTR-promoters of the HSV, HTLV, and HIV viruses utilizing transfections, nuclear protein extraction, and electrophoretic mobility shift assays.
