Working in computer vision industry, I myself is fully convinced by the revolution of new technologies. Machine learning that guides us in the tide of information, artificial intelligence that frees us from daily routines, virtual/augmented reality that blurs the boundary between cyber and real world, block chain that builds trust and transfers value over the web… Such revolutions are not accomplished in one stroke. Having been in both academia and industry, I am fully aware of the efforts required to transform a better algorithm in lab into a better product in real world. It is a tough process, a process that is full of challenges yet also excitements and opportunities. I found myself deeply attracted. To reduce one more percent on the complexity of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) without sacrificing performance, I modify optimization algorithms dozens of times. To remove the last percent of false alarms of an object detection demo, I explore hundreds of thousands training images and multiple post-processing tricks. To eliminate the last percent of wrong recognition in our intelligent vending shelf, we customize the shelf formfactor and tested various of cameras, sensors, and lights. With my experiences in both conducting research and prototyping applications, I am keen and eager to take one step forward. Revolutions from any of these technologies would by no means be at prototype level. They should be products, systems, and platforms that benefit our populations. I would like to dedicate myself to such developments. Not only to contribute and expand my skillset for now, but also to lead and steer in the future.
