Many years ago, soon after graduating high school, I had the opportunity to represent the United States at an international track and field competition. When I marched in the procession of teams into the packed stadium in Taiwan wearing USA on my uniform, it made a lasting impression upon me. The hours of training that I’d put into getting to that event told only part of the story. I had visited local businesses to ask for their sponsorship and to raise funds for my trip—and so many people chipped in. I knew I’d brought those people into the arena with me on that day.When I dig into a financial statement, I know that my years of experience contribute to the solution—just as my hours on the track contributed to my appearance at that international competition. I know that others are counting on me, and I take my responsibility seriously. Of course, that doesn’t mean our meetings will be grim.
