I own community engagement, education, and marketing activities from conception to execution. It is my responsibility to perform outreach to Franklin and Grand Isle County residents, businesses, and institutions as outlined in state guidelines for districts' Solid Waste Implementation Plans. As coordinator, I am responsible for broadening northwest Vermont’s awareness of and support for Act 148-compliant waste management, achieved by engaging our constituents in areas that advance NWSWD’s initiatives and mission.The coordinator also:• Manages the NWSWD website, social media, and email communications• Responds to requests for information/guidance in areas of materials management from member communities, schools, businesses, and residents• Takes full responsibility for public communication and media relations, including promotional materials & press releases• Plans and directs all aspects of events, such as workshops, festivals, webinars, and contests• Collaborates with other solid waste management entities, such as the State Recyclers Network and Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation• Liaises with waste generators, member communities, and Board Supervisors as needed

To support BFF’s campaigns and public engagement, and in collaboration with marketing staff, I produce written materials such as blogposts, one-pagers, resource guides, op-eds, and web features. To that end, I conduct outreach to partners/businesses and monitor developments in plant-based norms to mine storytelling opportunities. I also collaborate with marketing and PR staff on campaign projects to cross-market and co-create media materials, and give presentations as needed.

This one-year fellowship focuses on tactics, marketing, and promotion for BFF's DefaultVeg campaign. DefaultVeg is both a catering method and a cultural witness; we tell the stories of society's steady shift toward a plant-based food default, which BFF's other arms help to bring about via behavioral economics research and institutional collaborations. My work includes organizational steering (e.g., SOPs; theory of change); outreach to policymakers, businessowners, and NGO allies; and the creation of public-facing content such as Medium articles, website copy, and newsletters. I also mentor college advocates enrolled in the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition's Advocacy Institute.

I worked in three different buildings with students in grades 1, 3-4, and 10-12. At all levels I provided additional instructional support to students with IEPs and 504 plans. Social and emotional needs differed greatly among age groups, predictably. Body care and physical accommodations, too, varied by student. At times I instructed small groups to review and redeliver class curriculum, other times tutoring individuals one-on-one (e.g., 4th grade spelling, 12th grade chemistry).As part of Williston Central School's faculty DEI committee, I singlehandedly launched a campaign to educate staff on up-to-date inclusive language / preferred terminology.

My primary focus was the drafting and revision of a major disaster-related white paper released October 2020. I also joined NASAAEP and NARSC calls to arrange for animal-friendly disaster relief during COVID, helped organize webinars and Congressional briefings, researched and synthesized info on changing environmental regulations for an internal report, wrote blogposts + action alert messaging for the IFAW website, and took part in the day to day goings-on of the US office, pitching in wherever needed.

As a faculty member of the special education department at a rural junior-senior high school, I served as additional support for students with IEPs by providing small-group instruction, modifying coursework, administering exams, and bolstering student organization.

Planting, weeding, harvesting, and packaging were all performed with the eponymous co-owners on their organic, labor-intensive farm as part of a community-supported agriculture (CSA) program.
