Executive Vice president of Materials, a division with six specialist centres and 120 dedicated employees.With a sound basis in advanced laboratory facilities, the Materials division develops and provides specialist services within the field of new materials and processes. The division's many laboratories within areas such as chemistry, mechanical testing and materials technology focus on industrial applications, solutions and innovation.The Materials division is based on many years of experience in development and application of materials in industrial contexts. We participate in research and development together with topuniversities and research institutes and we provide consultancy to the industry on materials-related opportunities and challenges.In my division we cover the interaction between new and advanced materials, process technology and efficient forms of production. It is our clear focus to contribute to the development of next-generation high-value products and manufacturing processes. The use of new technology makes radical innovation possible throughout the value chain from concept development to pilot scale production and it is our goal to provide Denmark with new business opportunities.

When accepting responsibility for the Centre for Materials Testing, I took the leap from being a specialist to becoming a manager. As director I was fully responsibile for the centre's commercial and technological development. During my time as director, the centre developed from a business unit that just barely broke even to a sound financial success for the division and the institute. With a strong commercial focus on quality and testing, a success was born, which enabled exceptional optimisation of the functional surface area. The area has since become a solid success.

As team manager in the Center for Chemistry and Water Technology I was responsible for project acquisition and strategic development of the centre's research-based business areas. I had the personnel responsibility for approx. ten academic employees as well as P&L-responsibility. Professionally, the department spanned chemistry and nanotechnology; microbiology, biofilm and oil microbiology; industrial waste water technology and biological water processes.

I started as a consultant in the Centre for Environment and Water Technology. With a background in sales and market development, I joined the Danish Technological Institute where I was tasked with creating greater commercial impact of the centre's technological development projects. Soon, I became project manager and I enjoyed my role in the intersection between industry and research, where I wrote and applied for major national and international projects.

Fredericia

HydroCare was the Hydrogas Denmark department for environmental products. I was employed as a sales engineer and my job was to sell products to and consult municipal and industrial customers across Denmark on odour control in connection with waste water processes. After two years I was promoted to sales manager for the area which consisted of myself and three sales representatives. In this period I was responsible for personnel, sales performance and strategy. Later I moved on to a role as market development manager for process and environment in which the product portfolio was bigger and the market wider.

Aalborg

In continuation the PhD, I continued to work with environmental issues with a special focus on management and utilisation of sewage sludge. During this period, among other things, contract research was carried out on behalf of a large French company on combating sewage spills in wastewater treatment plants. In this job I came to understand how the industry's need for knowledge and solutions is entirely different from the research community’s quest for knowledge, just because it is new.
