Allow me to share some thoughts on mastery. Mastery is a strange concept. Thus, it isn't easy to self-assess whether or not you have achieved it. Many have heard about the 10,000-hour rule as the needed time consumption on the road to being world-class.Let me break this down:In Denmark, the average work hours per work year is 1.924. By that logic, it would take you ~5,2 years of full-time work to achieve mastery in any discipline.That said, anyone knows that it is virtually impossible to do 8 hours of deep and focused work per day. You are amazing if you can average 2 hours of deep-focus work daily. Then it would "only" take you ~19 years to achieve mastery.Many moons ago, I realized that my most important traits are discipline, willpower, "figureoutability", and learning from mistakes. Persistence is key. Discipline is the most important one. If you don't have discipline, you have nothing, because you give up under the slightest trouble.It's not what you do once in a while that shapes our lives. It's what you do consistently. So instead of finding reasons to quit, I find reasons to stay and grow. I own all my errors, instead of finding external excuses.I am chronically drawn to the deep end and seek things that are new and difficult. Hence, I thrive under pressure and I'm not comfortable being too comfortable. I also live in reality. For some reason, we have replaced things that work, with things that sound good. Are you going by fact or are you going by rhetoric? And don't be afraid to start a conversation. Being open and curious is fantastic because your people skills are the most important.
