Test Precor’s Linux and Android based fitness equipment, the P80, P82 and P62 consoles in an agile/scrum environment. Collaborate with software developers and quality team members to define requirements and acceptance criteria for new features. Analyze application specification and design documents to determine test scenarios. Write and maintain several tools in Bash and Qt/C, used in testing television functionality in our product at customer install sites. Maintained build system for two months while we searched for a full time build engineer. Performed end of sprint source code branch and build. Took charge of testing media in our European products. This included researching European television standards, advising our UK office as well as testing and troubleshooting first hand in England. Set up a simulated UK digital television station in our lab complete with transport stream captures done in England. Augmented media lab to simulate as many formats of television as possible, including DVB-T, PAL-I and ISDB-T to help test our product for international markets. Regularly go to off site installations to augment the customer service organisation as a technical resource. Regularly advise customer support and sales engineers regarding problems in the field. Went on a three week tour of clubs and offices in England, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland and France to do TV signal captures in preparation for our new P82 and P62 consoles. Maintain our custom-built Windows application used by customers to create their own channel lists for Precor’s consoles.

Worked with engineering teams to gather requirements and design new tools to aid application development. Implemented these newly designed tools in C. Most recently these included a JSON syntax verifier that greatly sped up interface development for the application teams as well as preventing broken builds. Fixed bugs in and added features to our version of the open source, rapid interface development tool, Glade. Engineering Lead of team that designed and packaged our Product Development Kit (PDK) and Software Development Kit (SDK) for our new Linux based product, ACCESS Linux Platform (ALP). Authored and maintained PDK design document. Performed initial validation of PDK before release to QA, which included development of sample applications, regression of bugs and installing and testing ALP on our reference board and form factor devices. Wrote all release documentation and documented new features of the PDK for each release, which included building of the sample code, hardware setup and use of tools and scripts included in the PDK. Worked with several different teams, including Product Marketing, Build and Configuration Management, and Engineering to make sure that the required components were integrated properly into the PDK and functioned properly. Trained and led new team members as we grew from two people to four. Assisted developers during our developer sessions at Linux World in San Francisco. Met every monthly release deadline.

Examined device specification from our licensees and assembled test suite for device. Our test suite included our own API test harness, certain important third party applications and a set of functional test cases. Interpreted test suite results, determined the source of fault and recommended fixes. Fixed defects in our API test harness written in C. Aided API test harness team with harness development. Gave final approval to licensee before they were allowed to ship their Palm Powered device. Trained other team members in technical matters including understanding API test harness results, incorporating new test tools into our certification process and setting up new hardware. Designed and programmed several PalmOS applications used to aid our certification process. Setup intricate test harness from IBM and Sun used to verify the Java Virtual Machine on Palm Powered devices and trained other team members in its use. Reproduced defects in PalmOS and verified fixes for research and development team. Was technical “go to” person for the entire certification team. Consistently met licensee deadlines to ensure products shipped on time. Worked directly with licensee engineering teams to quickly resolve problems.

Evaluated new devices and performed initial bring up of BeIA (the Internet Appliance version of BeOS) to them which included producing initial build, running demo for management and updating our build system to support the new device. Packaged beta builds and shipped to partners. Conducted BeIA training sessions for partners on and off site. Provided technical support both inside Be and to partners regarding the operation of BeIA and partner’s hardware. Answered BeOS programming questions from developers via email and phone. Wrote articles and sample code in C for Be’s developer-newsletter.
