My concern for the environment began at 15 years-old, at which point I took up scholastic studies in economics and environmental science, hoping to understand how to put the ‘eco’ back in ‘eco’nomics. I learned it’s largely a matter of attitude, not ability that drives how we interface our commerce with ecology. Our commitment to innovating and implementing tools to maintain a livable Earth is driven by our reckoning with what is as necessary as is possible, which in turn is driven by inspiration to find out. As an artist, my work has been in combining sound, ecology and interactivity to create modern, engaging and immersive environments that transcend the fabricated boundaries around our connection to the biosphere. As this entails the engagement of technology thus electricity, it is a natural fit to then extend the principles of my work to include biophilic forms of power. Equally, art is a necessary avenue affording innovation and experiment to take place in the creation of efficient and accessible energy technologies. Therefore, over the last 20 years, alongside my father’s efforts in integrated renewable energy systems, I have developed expertise in innovation and implementation of both interactive art and renewable energy. My experience-driven perspective and innovation-oriented attitude informs my design and execution of projects that promote the experience of awe for both biophilic technologies and ecology. I believe that combination to be the most effective driver for cultural adoption and commitment to both.
