Miles is a quantitative ecologist with a broad interest in arctic and alpine tundra landscape dynamics. He is driven by a passion for theoretically driven causal inference in stochastic systems. He's currently a PhD student at the University of Colorado Boulder in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a visiting scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Carbon and Global Dynamics Laboratory in the Terrestrial Sciences Section. Previously, Miles worked as a data scientist for the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research where he developed statistical algorithms and machine learning models for the cleaning and processing of long term climate time series data and designed data engineering pipelines to supply remote sensing and gridded climate data for regional phenological models.For his graduate work, he is developing hierarchical Bayesian models to analyze spatiotemporal trends in remotely sensed tundra productivity across the Rocky Mountains.
