Or had to change the culture of an entire organization?Welcome to Procurement … the misunderstood, red-headed stepchild of Corporate America. I absolutely love what I do because it’s so easy to understand, but so incredibly difficult to do. I stumbled into Procurement with my very first grown-up job and have never looked back. For someone who loves data & numbers, who is infinitely curious about everything, and who is fascinated by the chaotic mess of other people, I could not be more at home. It’s a perfect balance of Left-brain & Right-brain. Data & People. Objectivity & Emotion. Many of us think Procurement is easy because we’ve worked with 'buyers' who were (stereo)typical, stuck in the past, and/or just bad at 'buying'. I try really hard not to be like that, though. I try to be a broker of information and customer service agent, and at the end of the day, I believe people still buy from people. Procurement is my job, but I honestly love doing it and believe it’s one of the most valuable roles in an organization.
