I have been in healthcare since the early 1980s. Starting as an X-Ray Technologist for the United States Army and eventually on to my primary career in cardiology. Post military I started out in Columbus GA, as a cardiovascular technologist. Soon after I accepted a position to open an manage one of the first Free-Standing cardiovascular catheterization laboratories in GA. The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory of Columbus. That experience led me to South Dakota, where I helped start the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Avera Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, and from there into the industry. First as a traveling per diem clinical applications specialist specializing in hemodynamics, and then as a full-time product manager. As the industry goes, I was introduced to the "Layoff". I went back to my roots in the cardiovascular catheterization laboratories and managed for a few years, as well as started my own Cardiology Consulting business.In 2016 after many years in healthcare, I received the call I always wanted. Sr. Consultant on a major product line for ad very well respected company. Two years later, lay off again.What was a devastating blow, now 3 years later has led to a new direction.Diligent smart supervisors were able to put the employees who wanted into a government program, allowing me to go back to school and earn a degree. After earning the AAS degree in Health Services Management, I was speaking with my current physician regarding genetic testing. We had spoken previously regarding my healthcare background, and I mentioned on this day that I had received my degree.To my surprise, that mention, as well as personal familiarity with Prostate CA, and some years of experience in healthcare. I was offered and accepted the position of Medical Office Assistant in his practice. So I have made the leap to Urology. A new beginning from the ground floor, in beautiful Upstate NY.
