The project combines satellite imagery, in-field habitat records and various geospatial datasets (terrain, geology) to produce a national-scale habitat probability map. This is achieved using a Random Forest machine learning, bespoke GIS workflows, and cloud computing. In particular, I have helped lead the following aspects of the project:--- The segmentation process, using Trimble eCognition software, which uses satellite imagery to produce the objects classified in the model.--- Improved the urban and water classification with the application of bespoke remote sensing and GIS processes.--- Developed an automated workflow for classifying specific habitats which have high-quality extents available from partner organisations (eg. Coastal Saltmarsh extent from Environment Agency).--- Significantly developed the project code, helping improve overall efficiency and parameterisation options for the Random Forest model. Maintained the project GitHub account. Some of the key skills required have included:--- Strong technical skills across multiple disciplines (earth observation, spatial modelling, R programming, habitat specific geographies), which allows an agile approach to solving any challenges.--- Being adaptable and quick to learn new skills, allowing the project to develop at pace as new opportunities and research ideas present themselves.--- Excellent communication skills, including writing technical documentation, and regularly presenting the project aims and results to colleagues and external stakeholders. Demonstrated media editing skills to produce project videos (in Camtasia).--- Collaborative working with technical specialists, ecologists and data management experts to ensure the project goals are achieved in a timely manner.
