On our farm, now heading into its sixth year, my focus is horticultural practices and research, though I spend many hours on my knees weeding. We market our sustainably grown produce, featuring a wide variety of unusual and heirloom varieties, plus herbs, flowers and more.While we can grow anything in this wonderful, Willamette Valley, Oregon, climate, the addition of a 2,000 sq. ft. hoop house (HH) has been a huge plus, but also means figuring out the best varieties and amounts for the HH, using vertical growing systems where possible, and using smaller HH in the field to increase production. Our early successes have meant we are now in intense, year-around production serving both restaurant cliental and CSA customers. So, we are no longer dependent upon farmers markets to thrive.

Marketing and presentations on Diadem's (a Hungarian-German company) green roof technology plus identifying related vendors and suppliers. Very knowledgeable on all aspects of green roofs, with a focus now on the plant material.Continuos research on plant material for roofs, but now also for vertical surfaces…green walls. This is a much newer area and the best plant palette will emerge over the next decade. I am currently starting to grow many proven succulents for a roof environment, but also plan to add the best plant material for walls to my nursery mix.

Consulting on intensive food production systems (commercial and home), soil health, and sound, sustainable horticultural practices. I also have wide experience in marketing organic food products (both fresh and added-value) to local communities and consumers. I also work with green roof technology and sustainable horticulture products, helping them market their innovative technologies. For instance, I represent Diadem, a German/Hungarian green roof products firm with the finest quality products for all aspects of green roof construction. I have also represented several horticultural production products for growers that were either organic or non-toxic.

Managing a mid-week (Wednesday) evening farmers market in West Linn, Oregon. Responsibilities include lining up vendors and contacts for presentation stages, working with promotion, and day-of-market management.

Coordinated the early stages of development of The Oregon Garden, a major (eventually 220 acres) botanical display garden 40 miles south of Portland, Oregon. Duties included staff management, fund raising, public relations, membership development, and interacting with various federal, state and community organizations.

Responsible for all communications, publications, marketing and trade shows for this state-wide trade association for nurseries, greenhouses and garden centers.
