I am an executive with two decades of experience leading end-to-end functions, subsidiaries and divisions for iconic Australian institutions that include Suncorp, Westpac, Commonwealth Bank and Hollard. I have led $1 billion businesses with teams of up to 700 staff through M&A transactions, regulatory reforms, operating model changes, and technology upgrades. Over the last six years, I improved the accessibility and affordability of insurance by improving digital experiences, product design, pricing factors and underwriting capabilities. I delivered these changes while responding to a Royal Commission, record natural catastrophes, and a pandemic. Feedback from my leaders and staff throughout these changes noted my clarity of purpose, candid optimism and shared accountability. This gave staff a connection to customer outcomes, and clarity of what was expected of their role, performance, conduct and working relationships. My career highlights include:1) I led the executive team of Commonwealth Bank’s general insurer through the period of material change that included a Royal Commission, regulatory reforms, the pandemic and a divestment. 2) I applied machine learning to implement a behavioural rating factor that significantly reduced premiums by improving risk selection. CANSTAR recognised this product for ‘outstanding value’ for five consecutive years. 3) I integrated the way of working across digital, data and analytics to build customer experiences and data-driven propensity models that sustained digital growth above industry rates for over five years. 4) To finalise event claims faster, and at a lower cost than the industry average, I led an integration of weather forecasting, workforce planning, digitised claim services and supplier allocation.
