Director Of Design
As the Director of Design at RS21, I oversee all aspects of User Experience and User Interface design efforts within the company. The scope of this role includes business development, client relations, design ops oversight, as well as creative direction. Additionally, as a member of the RS21 functional leads team, I work directly with the C-suite on company and product strategy efforts as well.My overall goal is to empower the design team in any way that I possibly can; encouraging and supporting their ideas, guiding them through creative roadblocks, and actively pursuing opportunities for each of them to grow based upon their inherent strengths and skills. I naturally have a mediator-type personality, and I tend to leverage this aspect of myself to bridge any interpersonal gaps between my direct reports and their interactions with clients, project managers and their peers within software development and data analysis and engineering.A secondary goal is to influence how RS21 projects are defined, scoped and shepherded into the company by actively participating in the business development process. Proposal writing, cost estimation and task scoping are just a few areas where I work alongside the account lead and C-suite teams in acquiring new opportunities. I also participate in communications during the BD process; working with prospective clients to carefully determine the design requirements of potential projects prior to estimation.
Product Designer
User Experience Designer Ii
I was the UX Designer on the primary software development team within FCBH. Initially, my role focused more on UX research and information architecture development, but ultimately shifted to developing wireframes (both low- and high-fidelity) as well as mockups for the third generation refresh of FCBH's flagship software, Render, which was poised to be truly cross-platform for the first time (mobile, web and desktop).Additionally, I took on responsibilities as an interim Product Owner on the Render project as well; managing two software teams, and a small QA team while simultaneously fulfilling my design responsibilities.
Manager Of Media Systems
In addition to new business acquisition and project management, I also managed a team of seven technicians, specialists and creative technologists that produce the integrated audio/visual elements of Ideum's interactive exhibits. Additionally, this team participates in the installation of the hardware that is deployed in the field. Lastly, they handle the internal IT/networking within the company as well as maintain our on-site Usability Lab and staging area.
Producer
In the Producer role upon my return to Ideum, my primary duties included the acquisition of new business as well as managing projects from the proposal, contract, and execution phases.Clients included: The Cayton Children’s Museum by Sharewell, Gulfstream Aerospace, the Santa Maria ValleyDiscovery Museum, The University of New Mexico, and Amada America, Inc.
Technical Lead
I played the role of the primary developer in virtual reality development efforts within the Learning and Communications Solutions group. Initially, efforts took the form of an internal R&D proposal / project for VR training user interface standards, awarded and funded through the Northrop Grumman ouTSide the Box initiative, and more recently, a trade show experience that demonstrates the potential of using VR technology in a “synthetic training environment” scenario proposed by the U.S. Army featured at the I/ITSEC 2016 Conference. A third VR project, for the 2017 AFCEA West Conference, was for the U.S. Navy and focused on gathering data for an adaptive learning system via an intelligence gathering and combat exercise. In late 2017 the AFCEA West demo was repurposed as a tool to gather data for analysis from a virtual environment. Additional student performance data functionality was added to the experience, and it was modified to stream this data in real-time (whereas the original demo sent the data only at the conclusion of a session). The latest version of the demo also included a motion-tracked machine gun prop for the engagement portion. This demo debuted at I/ITSEC 2017 and was a major success.Secondary duties included: client relations, proposal writing, conducting usability studies, developing usability reports / documentation, creative direction for the web design team and scheduling.Clients included: U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Defense Manpower Data Center, and U.S. Customs & Border Protection, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.
Web Developer & Visual Designer
I was primarily a front-end developer in this role. Hand-coded HTML and CSS alongside some development utilizing the emerging web frameworks of the time.
Director Of Design
I managed all aspects of design; including client relations, overseeing pre-production tasks (wireframes, content development) as well as production-oriented tasks (design comp/mockup review, revisions). In addition, I also participated in design and (occasionally) web development tasks directly.
Interactive Developer
At the time I developed software for multitouch tables, walls and tablets. Other responsibilities included managing the web development team, managing projects and interfacing with clients, as well as some web design/development tasks.
Creative Director
In addition to web design production responsibilities, I also managed the Creative Department.; guiding the visual/interactive voice for the company across web, print and occasionally video media.
Web Designer
I designed the visual-side and coded the front-end of web sites and email blast templates for a variety of clients. Additionally provides interactive scripting for HTML/standards-based sites as well as Flash-based interactive projects (including ActionScript 3).
Dvd Author
I created prototype DVD-based projects for Paramount Digital Entertainment. Duties included DVD menu design, authoring, and scripting.
Multimedia Designer
I designed / programmed multimedia CD-ROMs for clients such as Fujitsu, Thomson Learning, and Lexus. Lingo programming as well as Flash design/animation/development.
Multimedia Designer
I worked on numerous CD-ROM projects for clients such as: Toes on the Nose, Ecko Unltd., and the XGames 2001. Duties primarily consisted of Lingo programming as well as some Flash animation and GUI design.
