As the CTO at KER Toki Power, I led a one-year digital transformation, pivoting the company into a technology powerhouse. I built a high-performing team of 10 diverse tech professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. By adopting modern tech solutions and Agile methodologies, we revamped our infrastructure and processes, enhancing customer experience and satisfaction. I forged strategic partnerships with top tech vendors, keeping us ahead in the market. My active participation in industry events positioned KER Toki Power as a thought leader. Under my leadership, we successfully transformed into a cutting-edge, customer-focused tech organization.

As part of the moved into the CTO role, I got involved into taking strategic business decisions, like:- Should we change market?- What should we focus on from a product perspective?- How much we need to raise and what do we spend it on?This naturally grew into fundraising, which included getting deep into the problem we are solving, the market we are targeting and the business model that made most sense to us. Although out of my competency and responsibilities I also had test different go-to-market ideas.

Just after starting at Lofty, I was in charge of evaluating whether or not we can transform the current proof of concept into the first version of the product. We decided to start from scratch and transfer only the good ideas over. Тhis allowed us to setup the development processing in a very good way and enable the team to deliver results super quickly. Although I had only two engineers in my team, their growth was my priority. I helped them grow by mentoring them through new responsibilities they took on, like doing project management organising the work of 4 interns, getting involved into product managed.

VMware Cloud Providers Program consists of 4500+ VMware partners, most are small service providers, but some are major players like IBM, Oracle, Alibaba, Rackspace, etc. These partners rent VMware software to provide mostly infrastructure services to their customers. I saw a gap between the OOTB services we provide to the partners and what the hyperscalers (AWS/GCP/Azure) provide to their customers. I started addressing this gap by making it super easy to develop new services, as well as started developing the most wanted services. It was a slow start, since it was me and another engineer, but in a year we grew to ~10 people. Here are the team’s achievements I’m most proud of: - Dramatically simplify the development experience of new service through specially designed CLI. - Developer focused documentation site: https://vmware.github.io/vcd-ext-sdk - Improved adoption of new services through reducing the installation and configuration time.

When I joined the startup the technology was built based on Wordpress plugins by consultants, and it wasn’t maintainable anymore, i.e. making small changes required a lot of time and effort. My goal was to extract the MVP and rewrite it with modern tools, best practices and technologies. I was driving the reshape of the product roadmap, polishing of requirements and overall user experience. I was coordinating and organizing team communication to make it all possible.

vCloud Usage Insight is a VMware cloud service that aggregates and automates monthly and end user reporting from on-premise vCloud Usage Meter instances to the VMware Cloud Provider Commerce Portal.I had the opportunity to get into BigData and learn the inner workings of the Apache Spark platform. I’ve designed and implemented a framework which allows multiple developers to work independently on a set of Spark jobs.

VMware Cloud Provider Pod automates the deployment of VMware-based clouds in Cloud Provider environments.I drove the evolution of the product from mostly on premises to mostly SaaS architecture. This included design and implementation of an extensible infrastructure deployment platform based on Kubernetes. I’ve designed the developer experience and tooling to make sure other teams could easily contribute.Another noticeable achievement is the replacement of a very unreliable MS Office template processing service written in PowerShell (which required an active MS Windows session) with an implementation in Java using Apache Poi. In the past someone had to manually click on the popups to resume processing of the templates almost on a daily basis, which was completely removed after the rewrite in Java.On top of that the processing time was reduced from hours to a few minutes.

The work I did as a senior consultant grew into an R&D department which deals with building custom solutions for specific customers. I reported into the department head and was part of the leadership team responsible for all things technical (acting CTO). My responsibilities included: - Helping the organisation grow the business by identifying new technological opportunities, and acting as an umbrella for their execution. - Reinforcing and maintaining engineering efficiency, nurture internal collaboration and culture. - Encouraging and facilitating collaboration with other parties (R&D, PSO, etc). - Speaking at internal and external conferences (VMworld, Tech Summit, etc) and representing PSCoE - Coordinating and reviewing internal innovation activities, including intern projects. - Mentoring team members and helping them grow.

After taking a Take3 to work on a cloud aware programming language for 3 months (I have a patent filed as a result of the research), I’ve decided to move back into a technical role, but in the professional services field. This allowed me to work closely with customers, gathering their requirements, designing solutions and implementing them.

I moved into management with a team from 12 to 15 people. My goal was to ensure people had all the resources and power to do their job as well as organising the work for several major releases of the vRealize Orchestrator product. I was responsible for hiring, coaching and growing my team.

I was responsible for ensuring the quality of several product areas. This required designing and implementing API (Java, Javascript) and UI (Swing, Flex) testing frameworks. I have also designed and implemented a system focused on load and performance testing.
