The Global Climate and Health Alliance is an alliance of health and development organizations with a shared vision of an equitable, sustainable future.As executive director, I coordinate the joint efforts of Alliance members to minimize the health impacts of climate change and maximize health co-benefits of climate change mitigation strategies, through leadership, advocacy, policy, research, and engagement. The Alliance and its members work at the global, regional, national and local level.

The Build Healthy Places Network fosters collaboration at the intersection of public health and community development to transform low income neighborhoods into places that truly support good health throughout the lifespan.As Senior Research Associate I lead the planning and implementation of an environmental scan to identify projects that, through collaboration between the community development, community development finance, health, and other sectors, have substantially improved the opportunities for health in low income neighborhoods. The research will identify key features of promising and successful projects such as partners, funding streams and type of projects built or implemented, to identify promising practices. The resulting case studies will be shared through the Build Healthy Places Network to inspire and inform others to undertake cross sector partnerships that bring the resources and expertise from the community development and community development finance sector to bear on addressing the social determinants of health.http://www.buildhealthyplaces.org/

Policy, communications, strategic planning and development.At the Center for Climate Change & Health, we work to bring attention to the threat that climate change poses to health; advance strategies to mitigate climate change while also protecting and benefiting health; and build healthy and climate-resilient communities that have the right tools to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The Center serves as a hub, linking work on climate change across PHI programs, while also addressing the implications of climate change for health directly through leadership development, engagement, research, policy advocacy and communications.http://climatehealthconnect.org

Strategic planning, organizational development, program development and implementation, strategic communications planning, writing, editing and communications project management. As program office for the Health Eating, Active Communities initiative and for the California Convergence, and by providing technical assistance to the Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program, our work supported communities across California to pursue place-based change that creates healthier community environments. Our work focused on obesity prevention through improving food systems/food access in schools, neighborhoods and workplaces, and through increasing access to physical activity opportunities and active living including school yard joint use, park development and land use/transportation planning.We supported local policy and systems change, and linked local vision, needs and successes to state and federal policy efforts.

As Publications Director, I co-edited and co-wrote the three-volume YES WE CAN Toolkit, providing a comprehensive tool for community clinics to develop asthma management programs integrating CHWs into the care team. My position involved writing, editing, and project management on large and small publications projects; strategic planning; grant proposal development, tracking, and reporting; curriculum development for trainings and college coursework; and policy advocacy. I also co-edited Foundations for Community Health Workers (Jossey-Bass 2009), the first published textbook for US-based CHWs.Community Health Works, a grant-funded partnership of San Francisco State University and City College of San Francisco, incubates projects that advance health equity and community health through developing training and education to build a diverse health workforce. All projects take a systems-change approach and a social justice lens to improving community health.
