Began new position 11-15-21 as Faith-Rooted Organizer, Contra Costa County at EBASE/FAME. I do interfaith outreach to support economic justice issues, primarily tenants rights. Ministry Experience: After graduating from seminary in 2015, I served as the intern minister at the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Congregation Santa Rosa (2015-2017) and did two units of chaplaincy training at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento (2016) and at UC San Francisco Medical Center (2018-2019). In 2019, I was approved to enter UU ministry and was hired as the consulting minister to the UU Community of Lake County (UUCLC) on a 1-year contract (10-1-19 to 9-30-20). In January 2020, I was formally ordained. Due to COVID-19 pandemic financial losses, UUCLC was not able to renew my contract. I am an affiliated community minister with the First UU Society of San Francisco.Employment History Before Ministry: Most of my former work experience prior to ministry training was in skilled and unskilled blue-collar jobs and in technical writing. I worked as a power plant control operator for 17 years and as a tech writer for a utility company for 11 years (including project management, editing and mostly writing a 1200-page maintenance manual for substation equipment, and preparing the legal documentation for shutting down a large power plant). Before that, I had blue-collar jobs in machining, foundry work, and mining. Union Activism: During most of the period shown above, I was an active union member, holding minor offices in locals; serving as a shop steward, labor council delegate, and a delegate to international labor solidarity conferences; and serving two terms as the chair of the San Francisco chapter of the Coalition of Labor Union Women. Other Activism: I have a long history of progressive social justice activism in the California Bay Area and previously in Utah and Arizona, and have held lay leadership positions in my home UU church. Currently, I serve on the board of the national Labor Fightback Network and am a founding member of Labor and Community for an Independent Party. I belong to Socialist Organizer and write for its publication The Organizer.Education: I have a BA in political science from Arizona State University (1976), an M.Div. from Starr King School for the Ministry (2015), and am a graduate of the Landmark Education Wisdom Program (2010). Though I did not go into the field, I also earned a professional certificate in hazardous materials management from UC Berkeley Extension (2000).Other Interests: choral singing, beadwork, photography.
