Principal Mechanical Engineer
• Retransfer Printing, VHD product: increased print resolution from 300 to 600 DPI; designed error detection process incorporating a customized LED diffusion panel and camera; improved reverse bowing (de-bowing) process to eliminate card bow.• Researched, developed and qualified the next generation printheads with high resolution and greater reliability for four independent product lines.• Developed the concept for a tool which automatically measures the color density on cards; fed hundreds of cards into module and recorded thousands of measurements for automated data acquisition to expedite testing.• Developed a graphics module to utilize high durability UV curable ink, with an integrated UV curing station.• Dye Diffusion Thermal Transfer increased image resolution 300 to 600 DPI.• Created custom embossed characters, developed a design guide and process to create future characters.• Designed automatic card surface cleaning process; improved quality 40% and reduced supply costs by 50%.• Led a team to develop a concept for full drop-on-demand color printing on plastic cards. Designed a process to automatically clean printheads; novel to the industry. Designed a card shuttling process unique to the industry increasing accuracy and quality of card printing. • A member of a team that dedicated eighteen months to transfer intellectual property from an acquired company located in Missouri. Spent one year in Missouri working with acquired company’s engineers to learn the technology and transfer multiple product lines to MN. In MN worked with manufacturing engineers to integrate assembly processes. Modified the design to improve accuracy and reliability of card transport which allowed products to be introduced into new markets.• Assisted manufacturing engineers to develop manufacturing processes; designed and built fixtures and tools for the assembly process; assisted in resolving assembly issues.
