The previously announced sale of Mergermarket to private-equity firm BC Partners by parent Pearson (and its Financial Times Group subsidiary) closed as expected in early February 2014. Mergermarket Group sister media include DealReporter, BioPharmInsight, Inframation Group (global infrastructure) and DebtWire.

After playing an instrumental role in the privatizing Metro Government-owned WDCN-TV Channel 8 public television, helping recruit CEO Steve Bass, and converting the station to WNPT Nashville Public Television, I joined the new organization, liaising with Metro Schools, supporting grassroots efforts, recruiting a new Community Advisory Board, handling media-relations, special events, promotions, rebranding and other functions.

Following Cook Ruef asset sale to MS&L, then a division of D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles (and now part of Publicis), I served clients transferred to Manning, as well as such new clients as Ford Aerospace and the American Production & Inventory Control Society (APICS). I also helped several of MS&L's U.S. and Canada offices in business development; and, provided some counsel to MS&L corporate's pro bono clients, including the United Nations Development Programme.

Returned to this firm to build its national presence, recruiting a staff of 14 before we sold the DC business to Manning Selvage & Lee, see above. Served public-affairs, PR and other clients based in the capital region, including Marriott Lifecare, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, J.C. Penney Co., HCA units and others.

Served a half-dozen or more divisions within Hospital Corporation of America, as well as Aladdin Industries and others. Duties included performing an HCA communications audit, during tenure of CEO Tommy Frist and Chairman Donald MacNaughton.

Handled sales, marketing, media-relations, advertising, PR and related functions for this former Cook Ruef client. Harbison is a 2,000-acre commercial, light industrial, residential and leisure community created by a private developer under the former Federal New Towns urban development program.
