Above all, I am an engineer. I thrive at building great hardware, but I also love shaping/leading the right engineering team to develop the right product. That’s what I’ve been doing for most of my professional life but especially at Google for the last eight years. My leadership style is based on transparency and "success through others". I firmly believe that any great leader gets the bulk of their job satisfaction through the success of those they lead. It sounds corny but it is really how I feel about it. I have a lot of international, multicultural professional experience in various countries (Brazil, USA, Ireland, The Netherlands, Taiwan). That's no accident as it is part of what I very much enjoy about my job. I am currently based in Taiwan but I shuttle back-and-forth to my second home in Dublin, Ireland, with frequent stops at the HQ in California. Some of my areas of engineering interest/expertise include touchscreen sensors in general (ProCap and FTIR in particular), digital switching power supplies (model predictive control algorithms), systems engineering (on and off silicon), digital signal processing (digital magnetic recording and digital switching power supplies), embedded software (8051 and Mips), and reliability thru accelerated life testing (especially HALT). Some of the accomplishments I am particularly proud of are:- I founded a startup (Mainbrace Corp.) with a few other great people, where I led engineering, resulting in a successful exit (it was acquired by bSquare Corp. in May 2000).- For 3+ years, I was the CTO (corporate officer) and VP of Engineering of a successful publicly-traded tech company (Bematech S.A.) in Brazil, where I led its growth from hardware into enterprise software, and the internationalization of its R&D, managing 150+ engineers across three continents.- I helped RAPT Touch develop FTIR into a high-performance, manufacturable touchscreen technology suitable for large touchscreens. With that technology, we’ve built Jamboard at Google, a product of which I am very proud.- I led the development of the Google Series One video-conferencing line of products. I am especially proud of the terrific sound quality of the soundbars and mic pods we have developed, and the awesome reliability methodology based on HALT we deployed. - At Cypress Semiconductor, I led the development of a couple of generations of ProCap touchscreen controllers, which powered some of the best mobile phones of the time.
