Ankara’da doğdu, ilkokulu ve ortaokulu Ankara’da, liseyi Çanakkale’de tamamladı. Anadolu Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü’nü bitirdi. Türk Tarih Kurumu’nun Balkanlar’da yürüttüğü Yurtdışındaki Tarihi Türk Eserlerinin Tespiti Projesi’nde görev aldı. Gazi Üniversitesi’nde yüksek lisans eğitimini tamamladı. Yurtiçi ve yurtdışında muhtelif tarihî eserlere ait koruma-onarım ve müze projeleri hazırladı. Hâlen Ankara’da serbest mimarlık hizmetlerine ve araştırmalarına devam etmekte olup Türk mimârî eserlerini konu alan kitapları ve makaleleri bulunmaktadır.Born in Ankara Mr. Yılmaz completed his primary and secondary education there. Then he moved to Çanakkale to attend high school, and graduated from the Department of Architecture, Anadolu University. He took part in the Project of Examination of the Turkish Monuments Abroad sponsored by the Turkish Historical Society. He earned his MA in Gazi University. Then he brought about conservation-restoration and museum projects for several historical buildings in and outside Turkey. Yılmaz still goes on his researches and works as a self-employed architect in Ankara. He has a relatively long list of articles and books examining the Turkish architectural pieces.
