- Conduct behavioral studies of laboratory mice modeling a newly-discovered mental retardation disorder- Pilot an odor discrimination test to examine mouse models with deficiency in the olfactory sensory neurons- Perform drug injection on mouse models through the intraperitoneal cavity and harvest organs for analysis- Investigate the regulation of a novel microRNA in the testes by expressing a post-transcriptional regulatory element under a reporter in cell culture, and analyzing the changes in reporter activity- Provide assistance to 4 post-doctoral fellows, 3 graduate and 3 undergraduate students- Supervise and train, new lab members and undergraduate students in lab safety, equipment operation, maintenance, and animal works- Serve as laboratory’s point of contact for Environmental Health and Safety, and Animal Care Program for inspections- Organize and analyze experimental data to use in grant proposals- Manage over 300 cages of various laboratory mouse strains, including husbandry, weaning, breeding, genotyping, euthanization- Maintain human and mouse immortalized cell lines; routinely performing freezing, thawing, passaging, and transfection- Establish databases of laboratory inventories: DNA plasmids, bacterial cultures, chemicals, and consumables- Sustain laboratory safety compliance and training of radioactive substances, biohazardous materials, controlled substances, and research models- Maintain laboratory equipment including CO2 incubator, microcentrifuges, ultracentrifuges, microplate reader, UV gel imager, thermocyclers, electrophoresis apparatus, biosafety and chemical hoods, pH meter, trans-luminometer, NanoDrop spectrophotometer- Conduct procurement for laboratory supplies, equipment, and other recurrent services- Routine techniques: nucleic acid isolation & quantification, molecular cloning, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, primer design, transfection of DNA expression vectors into cell cultures, Western blot, luciferase assay
