Director. Producer. Writer.La Vida In Black Films, Llc Sep 2008 - PresentWashington D.C. Metro AreaDelve into cinematic stories of Afro-Latinos living "La Vida In Black" in the Americas. Juan De Marcos Gonzalez; founder of The Afro-Cuban All Stars finds spiritual solace in playing the sacred rhythms of his ancestors. Debbie Machado-Santos, is a Venezuelan chef whose kitchen artistry reflects the African influences in her cultural approach to cooking. Puerto Rican Dancer Pedro "Cuban Pete" Aguilar set American dance floors on fire in the 1950's with his signature in Clave timing and African moves. A Cuban Canadian composer, songwriter, and Latin Grammy Award winner Alex Cuba’s signature sound is as distinct as the four-inch “fro” & the cheeky sideburns he sports. Each of these characters and others reveal their own stories, living La Vida In Black on camera. We display the differences and similarities of the African Diaspora throughout the Americas through social commentary from politicians, actors, athletes, historians, psychologists and anthropologists.La Vida In Black follows their paths and we journey into their world - rich / poor, visible / invisible. La Vida In Black is ultimately about my community, our past, our present; our children and our future.
