Drawing from the work of Norman Fairclough and Jan van Dijk, I analyzed the effects of news-media discourse on perceptions of criminalized youth. I conducted a statistical analyses of the kind of language used to describe youth from different sociological backgrounds, such as Michael Brown and Caroline Giuliani.

I founded the Teen Voices column, the first column solely featuring the voices of Lincoln teens in the city newspaper. The column has published 13 articles, and accrued over 40 student submissions from all 6 Lincoln high schools.Working with the Lincoln Journal Star and members of the Lincoln Public Schools district office, I was able to collaborate with various student submitters. On a monthly basis, I selected an article from a pool of submissions and worked with the chosen student on editing the article and polishing it for publishing.

I tutored middle school students on a weekly basis on the subjects of art and writing. In art, I specialized in pastel and sketching mediums. I provided both group and individual lessons.
