Communications Project Manager
I was responsible for the following: Plan, coordinate, and execute several Tribe-wide programs, including Employees of Distinction, Noek Nmeshosek, a twelve-week leadership program that dives into the Nation’s history and its entities, in addition to these, I served on planning committees such as CPN's FireFlight Balloon Festival, Reunion Festival, Juneteenth, and others. I was responsible for accounts payable and receivable for the department's two-million-dollar budget. I worked as the submissions coordinator for the tribe's newspaper, The Hownikan. The Hownikan is a monthly publication reaching the tribe's 30,000+ tribal members nationwide. I was responsible for frequent communication with local, state, and tribal legislators and all levels of leadership and employees within the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. I tracked media across all platforms dealing with Citizen Potawatomi Nation and used that data to prepare reports showing the Tribe's earned media values for the executive team. During COVID, the Tribe was granted funding. I was on a team that worked with Tribal leadership to determine special outlined programs that qualify them for COVID funding and processed eligibility for those programs. I worked with tribal members via phone to explain the programs and eligibility. Also, during COVID, I assisted the Tribe’s staff photographer in creating videos of different departments/entities. I was afforded the ability to create the internship program from the ground up by implementing a new program with policies and procedures for a tribal nation that employs 2400 people in various entities. We also created a portal for our Tribal students. I played a role in ensuring the internship piece of the website had all the required content and was easy to navigate. I maintain strong working relationships with department heads to match students with appropriate intern positions. I often had to think creatively where obvious opportunities might not seem present. I served as the Human Resources representative to onboard/offboard interns, teach new hire orientation, monitor timecards, and handle employment conflicts. I created course-style learning for interns across the organization to attend and learn skills such as crafting a resume, developing soft skills in the workplace, communicating, composing emails, and adapting to the workplace environment.
