About Mindert De Vries

Focusing on implementing innovative eco-engineering solutions for safety against flooding in coastal landscapes, aiming to create practical, natural, multifunctional and safe sustainable designs by pro-actively co-operating with the engineering professionals. My innovative concepts are combining ecology and civil engineering to build win-win solutions with nature values. Based on this, practical solutions are constructed in coastal and inland waters in Netherlands and abroad. My network is extensive and includes governmental agencies, engineering and science organizations. Providing positive creative energy and creating break-through thinking in workshops and organizations is my drive.After getting my masters in ecology of coastal ecosystems and ecotoxicology, I have been working as advisor for many clients worldwide, focusing on solving problems in water management. Together with many partners I do research in the field, in the lab and with numerical models on the interactions of physical and biological processes related to biogeomorphology.Until 2016 working as Project Coordinator of the EU-FAST (http://www.fast-space-project.eu/) project. Until 2016 Advisor to Board of Directors @HZ U. of Applied Sciences, as follow up of Professorship (Lector) Building with Nature, in charge of a research group and coordinatorship of the Delta Academy Applied Research Centre (http://goo.gl/zAIwLs). Team member of the winning New Meadowlands consortium (Hurricane Sandy Rebuild by Design competition, http://goo.gl/QULZ5k). SInce 2017 working on developing NBS research and education on sustainable services of coastal landscapes for Van Hall Larenstein U of App. Sciences. Na RSG Heerenveen gaan studeren aan RUU. Zeer geïnteresseerd in geologie maar toch hart verpand aan de biologie en dan met name studie van kust-ecosystemen. Via NIOZ geland bij WL | Delft Hydraulics (nu onderdeel van Deltares). Werkt daar al meer dan 20 jaar aan zeer verschillende onderwerpen in zoete en zoute ecosystemen. De laatste jaren op het scherp van de snede op zoek naar synergie tussen biologie, morfologie en waterbouwkunde. Show less
