As a Training Specialist, I provide emergency management instruction for public agencies, and for youth in disaster preparedness.

As one of the Planners in the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), I was responsible for the emergency preparedness, response, and recovery for the County, and the Operational Area. Some projects I carried out in my role are: • Staff development and training of the Disaster Service Worker (DSW) Program for County employees including creating new program information; presenting at the monthly New Employee Orientation for all new County staff; coordinating with Human Resources for the Onboarding process; and instruction of the FEMA IS-100 and IS-200 courses. • Preparedness presentations to partnering jurisdictions and non-profit agencies in the Monterey County Operational Area (OA). • EOC and DSW training to local school district staff in the OA. • Working on highly qualified team of colleagues with FEMA, CalOES, and DEM staff dedicated to the Long-Term Recovery of the Pajaro community. • Developed and implemented a new emergency preparedness program for youth, “Monterey County Cares for Kids”, providing instruction of the FEMA Ready Kids curriculum to students in Monterey County schools.- Spokesperson for Pajaro Disaster Assistance Program providing media interviews.- Duty Officer rotation: overseeing situational awareness and coordination of emergency events in the County.

I oversaw the emergency response and preparedness for the City of Palm Desert. This involved creating a Disaster Service Worker Program and onboarding process, training of all City staff on being/preparing for role as DSW; conducting ICS classes and ongoing trainings; collaborating with CalFire, County of Riverside Sheriff’s Department, County of Riverside Emergency Management Department, and CalOES; preparing planning documents for State and Federal reports and reimbursements; and strengthening the disaster response capabilities.Oversaw the preparedness of the City’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and was EOC Manager during the Tropical Storm Hilary, coordinating the City’s successful response with a fantastic team of professionals that included our Proclamation of Local Emergency; major sandbagging and public works response operations, and communication plan city-wide.
