About Mindy Mccarthy

I have 7 years experience of teaching in a Special Education Classroom. I have worked with students with a range of disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome, and various other developmental, orthopedic and health impairments. I am familiar with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Pictures Exchange Communication System (PECS), Tucci Learning Solutions, Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display Strategy (PODDS) and the Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication-Handicapped Children (TEACCH) programs. I have had the opportunity to implement these strategies into my classroom. I wrote my graduate research paper on the subject of transition of high school and middle school students with disabilities into the community. In addition to my classroom experience, I worked as a Service Coordinator at the Kern Regional Center. There, I gained valuable knowledge of the community services available to students with disabilities, including transition services and the importance of communicating with the parents. Both as a teacher and during my time as a Service Coordinator, I worked with a variety of people with disabilities. My knowledge of behaviors and my experiences in teaching and coordination allows me to provide students proper education they require and deserve.
