I am the Vice President, General Counsel of Family and Nursing Care (FNC), a $40 million home care registry/agency. As a trusted advisor and partner to the executive team, directors, operational leaders, and staff, I guide the organization on a wide variety of issues across legal, business, risk, operational, regulatory, HR/employment, and legislative matters.Prior to joining FNC in 2007, I was the executive director and general counsel for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a non-profit that advocates for ethical research and plant-based nutrition. I led groundbreaking litigation against the USDA, which opened the door for federal nutrition policy to support plant-based eating styles. I also advocated to eliminate the use of animals in medical education and experimentation. I subsequently joined the Physicians Committee as its board chair in 2012, and continue to remain closely connected to its mission. As a passionate animal rights advocate and vegan for 20-plus years, I am deeply committed to advocating to change society’s view of our relationship with all animals. My value-add business, legal, and people acumen coupled with my strategic planning, good business judgment, and effective communication skills enables me to excel at building strong relationships and liaising with government officials, trade association leaders, leaders of local competitors, and other business professionals to work for legislative change or reform. I appreciate the opportunity to connect with others who are also working to create a society in which the ethical treatment of animals is an integral part.Areas of Expertise: Executive Leadership • Legal Operations & Management • Regulatory Compliance • Risk Management • Government Relations • Labor & Employment Law • Managing Outside Counsel • Advocacy & Animal Rights • Legislative Affairs & Policy Development • Ethics
