On days when I am not scheduled to work in DOU, I am working part-time in the Radiology department. I have had the privilege to work as an Oncology Radiology Nurse when staffing was short, and this has led me to later start gaining experience as an Interventional Radiology nurse. Through this, I have gained valuable experience as the moderate sedation nurse during minimally-invasive image-guided procedures while coordinating with the medical doctors/radiologist and radiology technicians. This experience has given me an insight on care that goes beyond bedside acute care nursing, and I now have a deeper understanding regarding the importance of the radiology department.

My next chapter in life led me into the Definitive Observation Unit at Emanate Health. Our hospital proudly boasts its catheterization laboratory, where our primary patient population includes cardiac disorders such as arrhythmias, myocardial infarctions, and coronary artery disease. During this time, there was also a global pandemic where a majority of our patient population was inflicted with the novel coronavirus. I assume responsibility and accountability for an average of 4 patients during my shift, including coordinating and implementing patient care specific to the patient population. I ensure that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the unit's standard of care. Furthermore, I utilize nursing skills to determine the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care and educational needs of the patient/family/significant other to develop, implement and revise the plan of care.I also float to different units, such as the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit where I have the privilege to care for patients who are in critical condition. If I have to be honest, I am still learning more about critical care nursing, but this area of nursing has sparked a new interest in me and I am thankful for all the experience I have thus far.

As a Senior Licensed Medical Professional, I work as the Quarantine Medical Officer contractor with the CDC for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Response. I provided directives at U.S. Ports of Entry for inbound foreign and domestic travel, including both air and land border travel within certain jurisdiction (Southern California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and Utah). I served to prevent the introduction of infectious diseases into the United States by limiting the spread of illness and ensuring that all individuals meets CDC entry guidelines. My role involves making determinations on whether ill persons who entered the United States were infectious while travelling and what measures should be taken to prevent the further spread of infectious and/or contagious diseases. Responsibilities includes responding to reports of illnesses, monitoring health, and collecting any medical information of public health concern. Therefore, partnerships with public health specialists, emergency medical services, local and state health departments, epidemiologists, hospitals and healthcare providers became essential for disease surveillance and control.

As a new graduate registered nurse, I entered the acute care setting in the Med-Surg Tele Unit where I provide direct patient-centered care for complex acute illnesses and their medical management. My role required interpretation of critical lab results, x-rays, and EKG monitoring of cardiac conditions. I also provided accurate and timely medication administration, performed physical assessments, reported changes in patient condition, and provided treatments including intravenous medications. Nursing care also included care for surgical patients for pre-operative and post-operative procedures. I actively participated in the Orthopedic committee where we collaborated on making positive changes to improve care to this patient population.As I progressed in experience, I assumed the Relief Charge Nurse role and Preceptor for the Med-Surg Tele unit and managed unit assignments. To effectively cater to this patient population, I was required to make clinical judgement regarding the unit acuity and create assignments for other staff nurse based on their experience and capabilities. These attributes, coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills, provided me with the ability to provide a high quality of patient care and confidentiality while also effectively communicating pertinent clinical information to physicians, nurses, and other supporting staff.

When I passed my NCLEX examination, I was promoted from a Certified Nurse Assistant position to the Registered Nurse position at Casa Bonita Convalescent Hospital. Changing to a different position and receiving training in every nursing position on our unit allowed me to play an important role as the RN supervisor. Through my various experience in this facility, I understood everyone's role clearly. I directed and oversee LVNs, CNAs, RNAs, and wound care nurses. There was always constant communication with the pharmacy, medical doctor, and interdisciplinary team when needed. Appointments and transportation was made for the residents as needed. Furthermore, I ran codes as the team leader and ensured that all residents were safe during their stay. Weekly reports were put together by myself and presented to the Director of Nursing and administration so that we can assess current practices and areas of improvement.

In the earlier parts of my nursing career, I worked in a subacute unit at Casa Bonita Convalescent Hospital. As a CNA, I assisted patients in reaching their highest level of functioning, which is unique to each individual. I delivered responsive, compassionate, patient-centered care for up to 12 patients daily with medically complex cases primarily consisting of bed bound clients who are on ventilators. Furthermore, an emphasis is also placed on the importance of pressure ulcer preventative measures such as healthy hygiene, exercises, repositioning, and the use of skin protectant barrier creams. I give hands-on care to patients to ensure that they attain or maintain the highest possible physical, mental and emotional well-being.

I maintained a clean, organized, and effective unit floor by strategically placing inventory products. I also served as the main point of contact for customers to ensure that they were notified of promotions and new stock in the inventory. Additionally, I reviewed weekly sales report and analysis to forecast demands in the company's sales plan.

My responsibilities at Home of Christians church is to be a teacher to young children and a leader to college-aged students seeking to become teachers. As a sectional leader, this involved delegating responsibilities to a team of 7-10 young adults and ensuring that efficient classroom logistics are implemented. Working with peers involved a lot of instructional team work, and many times I led them by example. Therefore, as a teacher, I instructed groups of children ages 2-14. This involved preparing daily bible lessons, reinforcing positive behavioral means, and creating engaging mental and physical activities.

At RJ Chinese Kitchen, I supervised and managed kitchen logistics while working alongside the head chef. This includes cooking and ensuring that all products were fresh by checking temperatures of the refrigerator and cooking equipments. I also made specialty tea drinks and a variety of other beverages in order to satisfy customer's orders. I maintained and ensured station sanitization prior to and during hours of operation per inspection guidelines. Furthermore, I programmed and troubleshooted computerized cash registers to include sale products and payment methods.

As an assistant to the teacher for the Walnut Chinese Language Center after-school program, I instructed around 15 students from a kindergarten to 8th grade learning spectrum on a weekly basis. This after-school program focussed on assisting students based on local public and private schools' curriculum. I assisted the teacher's with finding out what the curriculum required from the students and ensuring that the students were competent to meet those standards. Furthermore, I prepared and taught the CAT (California Achievement Test) study materials for all students from grades 6-8.
