About Ming Shi

Ming Shi is an assistant professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University at Buffalo (The State University of New York at Buffalo), Buffalo, NY, USA, and is affiliated with the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. He received his Ph.D. degree from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA, in 2022. His Ph.D. advisor is Prof. Xiaojun Lin. He received the Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship in 2021. From 2022 to 2024, he was a Post-Doctoral Scholar at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA, and was affiliated with NSF AI-EDGE Institute. His postdoc advisors' are Prof. Ness Shroff and Prof. Yingbin Liang. He visited the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA, in June 2022 and 2023, hosted by Prof. Adam Wierman. He has been invited to give talks in Caltech, MIT, NYU, ASU, NEU, etc.Dr. Shi's research strives to develop AI-powered autonomous networked systems with strong theoretical performance guarantees under uncertainty, dynamics, and practical domain-specific constraints. Specifically, he is focusing on:- Reinforcement Learning, Bandit Learning, and Generative AI- Online (Non-)Convex Optimization and Online Control- Networking, Resource Allocation, Wireless Communication, and Edge-AI- Modeling and Theoretical Analysis- Operation Research, Power Systems, and EconomicsAll publications of Dr. Shi are in top journals and top conferences, e.g., IEEE/ACM ToN, IEEE TIT, IEEE INFOCOM, ACM MobiHoc, ICML, ICLR, and NeurIPS.
