About Minglei Li

I have a great passion for vehicles since my childhood, therefore, automotive engineering was chosen as my major both in undergraduate and master learning stage in colleage. Working in the UJS Formula Student Racing team equipment me with strong team spirit, a strong sense of time, high-level driving skill and hard-working attitude. I enjoyed working as an engineer and a driver in the process. The experience helped me become highly effective at quickly identifying and understanding problems, and developing solutions.My education in China and England provides a diverse cultural understanding and insight into professional contexts. Cranfield equipment me with critical thinking and innovative capabilities. I am motivated to work with competitive and thoughtful people and contribute what I have to the automotive industry with companies concerned. I am very proud to work in PATAC after graduation, the experience working in PATAC expand my knowledge of the integrity of vehicle build process, project and timing management, which strengthened the ability.

As an active safety test&validation engineer of vehicles, my job mainly including BSD tests, functional safety tests, track road tests and country road tests etc. of the ADAS subsystems. Having experiences of using ADAS test equipment including VBOX/Video VBOX, dSPACE MAB, RT3000, VSPY3, CANoe etc. Working with my colleagues together to develop and support the ADAS system, pushing the autonomous vehicles to the market at a production level.Responsible for validation work of GM Global programms such as B233/D22/E2LB/E2UB etc, and also PATAC local programs like458/358/JCSB etc.

The research was based on the driverless project 'HumanDrive' initiated by Nissan's European R&D Centre, funded by 9 consortiums and technically supported by Cranfield University etc. (More Details: 'humandrive.co.uk').The purpose of this study was to design a human-like trajectory through the optimal control algorithm so that the trajectory could simulate the human driving behaviour, then the optimal trajectory generated would be compared with the actual humandriving trajectory through time to lane crossing (TLC) to study the correlations between them. This project was mainly implemented by the Matlab code.

Driving Cab Designer

Modelled the exterior of the driving cab using CATIA cooperating with other group members of the frame and the ambulance cabin design; Imported the dummy model Manikin and adjusted its posture for ergonomic analysis then designed the interior components of the cab. The design achieved the objectives of low wind resistance, large space and ergonomic design.Selected the materials and processors reasonably to control the budget and a cost table was calculated; Assembled the vehicle components with other group members.Checked whether the design of lamps, alarm lights and reflective signs of the vehicle model meets the requirements by looking for relevant regulations, and rendered the exterior and interior of the ambulance to make it more realistic.

Modelled the first-generation electric formula car body using CATIA generative shape design; Completed the coating design and whole car rendering using Rhino and Keyshot;Assembled the actual electric vehicle including suspension, motor, body and other parts; Participated in the pre-race test and went to Zhuhai as one of the main racing drivers.

Led the team members completed the design, processing and assembly of 2016 new racing car body parts including body and aerodynamic packages in strict accordance with the schedule;Applied EPS foam to build the body moulds for the first time, and good mould surface was obtained with little cost increase, which saved a lot of labour and time cost. With the improvement of car body production technology, the weight of the car body & aerodynamic packages decreased by 34% compared with last year, greatly improving the lightweight;Solved the problem of unstable assembly of the aerodynamic package last year by improving the connection mode; Fast disassembly was introduced for the first time to increase the maintainability of the vehicle; The first use of spray paint resulting in reducing wind resistance and making the vehicle looks fabulous; The excellent design of the body group helped the team achieving the best performance in the design report (10th).Responsible for purchasing a two-stroke karting; Trained new team members and responsible for the kart and simulator training; As the main driver to race in Xiangyang circuit.
