About My Job:- Developed a LaTex file parsing tool and enhanced PDF file parsing algorithms implementing Python for automated extraction of chemical elements associated with section names from 1,024 nuclear research papers- Analyzed parsed data from 25 papers to create a frequency table with 1,038 observations, and performed frequency analysis to discern patterns between section occurrence and element significance- Established that elements in abstracts and conclusions were primary subjects, with over 65% being significant- Directed further focus on parsing elements from abstracts and conclusions, expediting the NucScholar search engine's development by using main-topic elements as primary search criteria

The rise of China has lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty and reshaped the global economy. However, modern empirical research on the reforms behind the Chinese miracle is unusually scarce, partly because of the lack of reliable official data. With this project, we propose to fill this gap using an unusual source: CIA spy satellite imagery of mainland China from 1960-82. By applying the latest advances in machine learning to acquire economic information from these satellite images, we generate new data to analyze the causal effect of the first major Chinese reform -- the 1978 liberalization of agriculture and the Household Responsibility System.
