I mentored 40 11th grade students in every aspect of the college application process through one-on-one meetings with students and two-hour after-school workshops Monday-Thursday. I also developed ACT test preparation materials and lesson plans, as well as proctoring Saturday practice ACTs and providing targeted feedback to students to improve their scores. My classroom had excellent attendance and ACT score improvement.

I write, compile and edit a textbook for the iPad or tablet for grades 5-8 in English Language Arts. This textbook is unique in that it is written to comply with the new Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and provides a greater focus on nonfiction texts than in the past. It is also unique in its format -- by using the iPad as a medium, our team is able to create new and exciting methods of exposing students to a wide variety of subject areas.

Minneapolis, Mn

As an intern for the City of Minneapolis, I developed a series of case studies about a program called Great Streets which supports commercial nodes and districts throughout the City of Minneapolis. Working with community partners and staff at the City, I was able to create 10 case studies about methods and successes of the Great Streets program since its creation in 2008. I also worked with a Principal Project Coordinator on developing a report to City Council regarding the sale of land to a private business.

As a literacy mentor, I worked with youth in South Minneapolis on improving their English and Spanish literacy skills, as well as providing homework help and a general source of support for students. I have worked at: Roosevelt High School, Boys & Girls Club, and Waite House Community Center. I look forward to returning to my position after my semester abroad.
