My primary role at Alberta Innovates is to manage the Alberta Clinical Research Consortium, which advocates for the advancement of clinical research programs in the province, including clinical trials, direct-to-consumer research for digital health products, and quality improvement studies. In this portfolio, I have been essential in coordinating working groups on topics important to Albertans, including integrating clinical research into care, digital health technology evaluation, decentralized clinical trials, and innovative clinical trial models. I have also become the lead touch point for training graduates to have meaningful careers in clinical research. I have also supported the development of several public-facing documents related to engaging the public on clinical research and selling Alberta as an ideal Canadian destination for clinical trials.In addition, I have been the lead Senior Buissness Partner on the IDEATE platform - an innovative online network allowing innovators in the D2C health space to connect broadly with end-users, investors, and community partners. IDEATE functions under a larger program ADHERE - which seeks to build Alberta's capacity in research and innovation. I have worked closely with the Executive Director on this file to help the project secure funding from PrariesCan and continue to be an essential part of the team, leading day-to-day operations on this file till new staff can be onboarded. This has allowed me to gain critical insights into ecosystem building, innovation hub management and project management.

As a freelancer, I have supported several companies in their communications needs, with my primary interest being supporting biotech, bioprocessing and cleantech ventures as well as professional development service providers. My services can be divided into two categories, event management and technical/business writing. Event management services are tailored around organizing, promoting or moderating/presenting at events geared at a technically trained audience such as graduate students and career engineers (specifically chemical & process engineering). Meanwhile, my business writing work has been centred around developing web content, compelling case studies and blog posts for companies in clean tech, life science and agri-tech, nanotechnology and process engineering. As an Innovation Manager, my primary focus is supporting the development, commercialization, and utilization of emerging technologies in the Calgary research sector. In this role, I manage fellowship programs (Innovation Catalyst Grant and GrinSTEM) that allow newly graduated HQP (MSc and Ph.D. grads) to commercialize hard technologies by supporting them with their business and technology development needs.Outside of this, I play a quintessential role in supporting the development, growth and management of Innovate Calgary's new Energy Transition Centre. Reporting to the centre's Associate Director, I have aided in lease/contract negotiations, site management, and other administrative and business development tasks pertaining to the centre. This includes but is not limited to: touring and bringing in new clients, event organization and management, and helping support the larger vision of the ETC through outreach at local ecosystem events.

As a Program Coordinator, I support the Programs Team in managing and supporting applications for Genome Canada competitions, specifically the Genomics Applications Partnership Program and past Large Scale Applied Research Program. This involves conducting stakeholder consultations in academic and local biotech communities to seek viable opportunities and promote Genome Canada competitions. When appropriate, I also support the conceptualization and development of Alberta's priorities areas. This work includes researching and drafting white papers, preparing presentations for various stakeholder communities, organizing round table discussions, and other forms of stakeholder consultations (surveys, etc.).

As the Scientific Recruiter, I screened and selected candidates to join AbCellera's vibrant and rapidly expanding molecular biology and cell expression teams. My specific roles included working with hiring managers. I helped craft compelling job descriptions geared at attracting some of the best talents in the field. I was also conducting market research to determine the best sites to promote upcoming roles. Additionally, my portfolio involved interacting with candidates coming from strong academic backgrounds, including but not limited to cell biology, immunology, biochemistry and protein engineering. Through CV review and incoming referrals, I hand-selected the best candidate to move through the HR pipeline, participating in first-round interviews and following up with candidates when necessary. As required, I would join in final stage interviews to help determine candidates' scientific knowledge and if their personal goals aligned with our company. Other tasks involved participating in debrief and team lead meetings, scheduling meetings and conducting final reference checks on suitable candidates.

Defended my Masters without revisions in Sept. 2019. As a part of my MSc thesis, I worked in the lab as a research assistant. Aside from the research described in brief below, I took the opportunity to develop several transferrable skills by overseeing the training and work of several undergraduate students, helped write lab S.O.Ps, chaired group lab meetings, organized social events, and planned bi-annual lab cleanups.My main research objective was to isolate and characterize bacteriophage (viruses which infect bacteria), which can infect a unique class of methane consuming bacteria known as methanotrophs. During this period I developed a protocol for isolating phage from both soil and water environmental samples, the noted uniqueness of this protocol was its ability to test samples against several bacterial host strains in a single run. In addition to this work, I also used predictive bioinformatics software to identify potentially integrated viruses (prophages) in methanotroph strains. Using a chemical-based approach, I was later able to isolate and characterize these viruses through DNA sequencing. Essential Assays Learned: Phage plating, Calculating phage Titer, Experimental Design and Innovation, DNA Extraction and Analysis, Phage Induction Techniques, Bioinformatics Analysis. After successfully defending my thesis, I stayed as a research assistant to help finish experiments for manuscripts.

I began working in the Kar lab as a research assistant in the summer of 2016. I later moved onto an MSc in Psychiatry with a specialization in molecular psychiatry/neuroscience. My work involved looking at the influence of several environmental factors on the prevalence of amyloid-beta in classical Alzheimer's cell lines. I also conducted experiments looking at the impact of cholesterol on the Alzheimer's brain. Essential Assays learned: ELISA, Western Blot, Primary Cell Culture, BCA assay, General Mouse Handling, and Cell Imaging. I left the program to pursue a more interdisciplinary and industry-focused Masters in the summer of 2017.During my time in the lab, I participated as an author on the following manuscript: Endosomal-Lysosomal Cholesterol Sequestration by U18666A Differentially Regulates Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) Metabolism in Normal and APP-Overexpressing Cells. As a contracted tutor, I worked with K-12 students helping them prep for examinations, as well as complete weekly homework assignments. I would tailor lesson plans to students depending on their needs and where they were in the Alberta curriculum. For some students, this meant helping them catch-up to their class, while for others, I designed activities that promoted educational enrichment, usually aligning with the Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate curriculums. Main subject areas included: Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Reading and Comprehension, and general sciences.

As a classroom facilitator and club instructor, I presented pre-prepared workshop lesson plans at schools throughout Edmonton proper and the greater Edmonton area. On occasion, we would go out to small-town schools to facilitate day-long workshops. Topics focused on the primary and secondary school curriculum, encompassing all fields of science from physics to biology. Finally, the second half of my contract concentrated on creating, editing, and organizing lesson plans for summer camps, which incorporated the Alberta Education curriculum. My area of specialty focused on developing an engaging and empowering camp programme that allowed young girls to get involved in STEM.

Worked with Richard Rachubinski as an undergraduate researcher, to complete my undergrad thesis. The main objective of this project was to engineer yeast to act as a model for human peroxisome disorders, using standard genetics techniques.Essential assays learned: DNA Transformation, PCR, Fluorescent Cell Imaging, DNA isolation and Sequencing.

As a summer student, I worked between the faculties of Chemical and Materials Engineering and Biological Science for two consecutive summers. Under the supervisor of Dr. Dominic Sauvageau and Dr. Lisa Stein, I worked on multiple projects concerning methanotrophic bacteria - bacteria that can live on single carbon compounds such as methane and methanol. Essential Skills learned: batch fermentation, protein extraction and analysis, basic laboratory practices and techniques.

While in this role, I drafted custom programming for the Girls GEM, grade 3-5 Saturday club. The clubs focused on introducing young girls to STEM (science technology engineering and math) opportunities, including the chance to meet women who have excelled in STEM fields. While in this role, I was responsible for managing and training a team of volunteers, completing administration tasks, and acting as the face for the organization at public events such as the Edmonton First Lego League competition.

As a Science Interpreter/Demonstrator, I was responsible for delivering science programming to the public in the form of both "lecture-style" performances as well as one on one teaching sessions. Additionally, as a demonstrator, I was responsible for maintaining the chemical inventory and ensuring that fellow demo staff and I were wearing proper PPE when performing shows for the public. My work as a demonstrator segued into action as a Sleepover Presenter, which allowed me to work one on one with school/girl guide/scout groups over the period of a weekend. Throughout their booking, I would guide them through the science center facilities as well as perform private demonstrations, and star theatre shows for the group's entertainment.

For two consecutive summers, I worked as a Recreational Attendant as part of the Recreational Therapy Team. My primary duties included facilitating exercise and art programs for seniors and individuals with complex health problems. I also organized significant events such as family barbecues, participated in charting and interdisciplinary rounds, and completed administrative work for the office.

Sponsored by the Erin Bayne laboratory, I worked as a summer student researcher in the field of ecology and environmental biology. Through the summer research program, we received the opportunity to participate in several professional development training programs.
