Team Coordinator

Animal Rebellion is a mass-movement which seeks to bring social change in order to mitigate the worst impacts of the climate crisis through the form of civil-disobedience. Having volunteered with the movement for several months in early 2021, I then went into a full-time paid position in the summer of 2021. I was a team coordinator, as well as being an active member in other sections of the organisation. My role as team coordinator included reaching out individually to members of my team, organising meetings and meeting minutes, ensuring work was being done, and communicating with other team coordinators. During my time in the role I feel that I achieved many things and worked effectively with all members of my team and those in the wider organisation. The key skills that I took from this role were coordination, responsibility, teamwork, time management, and communication with others.

Feb 2021 - Mar 2023

Social Media Coordinator

Remote, Uk Based

Since April 2022, I have been working full-time as a social media coordinator for the Just Stop Oil campaign. My role is to attend media team meetings and feed back information to the wider social media team to create posts and content for the week. The aim of the campaign's social media presence is to educate a wide audience about the issues of our time-specifically climate breakdown and the causes of the cost of living crisis; to mobilise people to take action with the campaign; and to create connects and collaborations with other organisations through social media. We cover Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, therefore I have developed a clear understanding of how each of these platforms work, and the content that is appropriate for each one. In terms of coordination, I have developed new skills of team organisation and leadership which are essential for all sectors of employment. The possibilities for using social media are ultimately endless, therefore time management and prioritsation of tasks have been important skills to develop whilst doing this role.

Apr 2022 - Sep 2022

Sous Chef

Neighbourhood

Brighton, England, United Kingdom

I have worked as a sous chef at Neighbourhood café since June 2021, with a break during the winter of 2021/2022 due to low staff needs. My role as a sous chef includes making prep from all fresh ingredients, cooking and presenting the meals/dishes, cleaning at the end of shifts, and working in close proximity and good communication with the head chef. All the food is plant-based, and everything is made from fresh ingredients. During my time in this position, I have learnt a variety of new skills. On a practical level, I have developed culinary skills I did not previously posses-such as cutting techniques, deeper understanding of recipe design, and improved food presentation. On the social level, I have developed better communication skills due to having to work in a small kitchen through busy and sometimes stressful shifts. I am very grateful for this job, as these skills of communication are transferable to other sectors and forms of employment.

Jun 2021 - Sep 2022

Front Of House

Walton-On-Thames, England, United Kingdom

I worked as a front of house member of staff for 2 years in the Walton-On-Thames wagamama branch. Daily tasks of this role included taking orders, engaging with customers, answering phone calls, running food, and later organising take-away deliveries during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, I learned how to work under pressure during extremely busy hours and how to communicate well with customers. At times it was extremely stressful, but this taught me important skills like prioritisation of tasks and how to remain calm and friendly despite this stress. I also learnt how to manage my time effectively.
