Marketer turned ocean conservationist. Reenergising and reorienting my career to dedicate it to marine conservation. Master of Science graduate from the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science. For my thesis, I used a model to predict longline fishing effort in the ICCAT convention zone using spatiotemporal variables and two different measures of effort - one reported by ICCAT members and one inferred via machine learning from AIS (provided by Global Fishing Watch). My research interests are small scale to industrial scale fisheries science, conservation, and management including food security and food systems, sustainability, illegal unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and trade of seafood; deep-ocean habitats including their functions, the ecosystem services they provide, discovering their biodiversity, and their role in food web dynamics, especially as they relate to commercially targeted fish species; and the ecology and effects of marine protected areas, their associated socioeconomics, and the psychology behind ocean steward v exploiter. I am also interested in the coexistence of offshore wind farms and their role in the socio-ecological system.Prior to redirecting my career, I spent 12 years working in the private sector in international marketing, project management, and teaching roles. This has equipped me with transferable skills including fluency in Spanish, international stakeholder management, content curation, planning and managing budgets, team management, training and mentoring, strategy development, and project management. I am currently working on publishing the results from two research projects - my thesis discussed above, and secondly, the role of social capital in creating a sustainable marine life fishery in Florida.
