As a former educator in my first HR role, I was once told, “You can't teach adults the way you used to teach students.” But I’ve decided that all depends on how you used to teach students: My teaching philosophy was built on seeing the unique value in each person, removing systemic obstacles in the way of their goals, and building a community of mutual respect where everyone could navigate hard conversations together and create replicable successes. My program management philosophy is built on those same person-centered pillars with a foundation of sustainable operations. I don’t consider myself the owner of all knowledge, or all authority; I am constantly learning and growing; and I build teams where everyone understands that we each have something important to contribute toward our collective success. I value authentic engagement and I intentionally plan with engagement in mind.My experiences as an educator and program manager have given me the ability to align long term goals and day-to-day logistics while flexibly supporting the priorities of people and budgets involved along the way. I have high expectations for the people and programs I lead, so I do my best to model those high expectations through my own example. I enjoy the ebb and flow of project-based schedules and supervision, and I actually prefer roles where I wear multiple hats! I love creating community, and I often do that by planning special events where people can connect in accessible and memorable ways.I am honored to be applying all these ideals in my work as Executive Director for ArtsEd Washington. Please reach out if you'd like to discuss how we might connect for collective impact!Highlighted skills:Arts administration; Budget management; Diversity, equity, inclusion; Employee lifecycle; Employee support strategies; Event planning; Hybrid and remote management; Learning development, Leadership development; Microsoft Office Suite; Program development; Public speaking; Strategic planning; Team building

Employee Experience And Engagement ManagerExcelsior Wellness Sep 2022 - Feb 2023Spokane, Washington, United StatesMy time at Excelsior was full of impactful experiences. I created and/or revised Standardized Operating Procedures for key points in the employee life cycle, employee communication form, all-company meeting template, HR event proposal template, HR event operations checklists, and HR event feedback form. Based on trends from exit data and employee interviews, I advocated for changes to increase employees' sense of inclusion and value, and improve retention rates. I proposed efficiency improvements through previously underutilized platforms such as Microsoft Teams Channels, Microsoft Planner, SharePoint, and OneDrive, and I cleaned and migrated data for 210 employees from BambooHR to the new SkillSurvey platform. I also had the honor of designing and facilitating monthly company-wide gatherings online and quarterly hybrid events. In all my work, I focused on broadening our accessibility and inclusion strategies, implementing interactive channels for remote employees, and increasing enjoyment for all employees and external partners, while of course managing budgetary responsibility. This video highlights our 40th Anniversary celebration from my second month at Excelsior: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/excelsiorwellness_community-health-grateful-activity-7015502045348593664--W3t?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios -
Education Faculty: Field Experience SupervisorEastern Washington University Aug 2015 - Aug 2022Spokane County, Washington, United StatesAs Field Supervisor, I spent my days mentoring and guiding future teachers, and collaborating with their mentor teachers and administrators in various school settings. My evenings were spent previewing students' lesson plans, providing feedback for implementation of their ideas, and mediating challenging situations when needed. Over this period, our work transformed from purely on-site to fully remote and again to hybrid, giving me a great chance to experience many digital learning management systems and education environments beyond the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene region. -

Musical Theatre ChoreographerSpokane Falls Community College Mar 2018 - Jun 2021Spokane, WashingtonI have loved working alongside the creative leaders at SFCC and helping to audition, select, and teach the cast members who ultimately bring these fascinating stories to life. In two very different seasons, I enjoyed collaborating with the talented directors, designers, and producers, as we put together inspiring and entertaining shows. The digital production in the Covid-restricted spring of 2021 was an especially exciting opportunity to innovate a new form of musical under the direction of Dr. Ashley DeMoville. I am proud to know that together we have created shows where so many actors/dancers could truly shine! -
Program Director And Curriculum Instructor: Dance And English Language ArtsSpokane Public Schools 2003 - Jun 2019Spokane, Washington AreaBy planning with the end in mind, I consistently implemented strategies to help students with a variety of backgrounds and skills succeed in goals that were relevant to their future. Classroom culture was a top priority, and together with my students, we engaged in complex and meaningful conversations about how to interpret and impact the world around us. Versatility with technology and communication styles enabled me to navigate many projects concurrently, while also developing and strengthening partnerships with students, staff, and community members. -
Curriculum DeveloperSpokane Public Schools May 2013 - Jan 2014I designed the new on-line AP Literature curriculum for Spokane Virtual Learning, and I implemented the first semester of the new curriculum as the teacher for on-line AP students. My curriculum thoroughly addressed the College Board's standards for AP Literature, and connected each lesson and assessment to the Common Core State Standards. It also incorporated a variety of approaches to reading, writing, on-line discussions, and technology-based presentations which enabled my students to engage in meaningful exploration of literature. -
Voice Over ArtistIndependent 2012 - 2018Spokane, Washington AreaRecording vocals for commercials, songs, and special effects has allowed me to combine my musical training and my literary analysis skills in order to produce exactly the right tone and tempo for a variety of target audiences. Although not a current career focus, I happily take on new projects when they come my way.

Ensemble PerformerSpokane Civic Theatre Jun 2016 - Oct 2016Spokane, WashingtonBefore joining this cast, it had been nearly 15 years since my last full-length stage performance. I appreciated the teamwork I experienced alongside the other dancers/singers/actors, and especially the encouragement I received while stepping out of my comfort zone with many of the scenes. It was a wonderful way to bring together my love for singing and dancing again after a long hiatus! -
Adjunct Instructor: Education And DanceWhitworth University 2011 - May 2016Spokane, Washington AreaI loved teaching these courses because they allowed me to bring together many of my favorite subjects and to empower others to integrate those subjects in their own future lessons and/or performances. Each semester, I taught a fascinating interdisciplinary class for elementary education majors: Theatre Across the Curriculum. During spring semesters, I also alternated between two entertaining dance classes: Jazz Dance II and Musical Theatre Dance. -
Teaching MentorArts Impact 2011 - 2013Spokane, Washington AreaWith a panel of Spokane-area artists, I was trained by the Puget Sound ESD in their Arts Impact teaching model, then I mentored teachers in the Spokane area as we replicated their AI model. The purpose of the curriculum and subsequent research was to determine whether arts infusion could improve students test scores in mathematics and language arts, and specifically to explore the differing impact on students in urban or rural settings. It also equipped local teachers with exciting and meaningful teaching strategies to engage their students in active learning.
