The Power of Mentorship: Impacts on Female Micro-entrepreneurs in Medellin, Colombia is an experiment that proposes weekly, individualized mentoring sessions among female micro-entrepreneurs to promote sustainable profits, higher aspirations, and female empowerment. The goal of this study is to assess the impact of mentorship on sales, profits, and female empowerment among female micro-entrepreneurs in Medellin, Colombia. With the sample of 104 female micro-entrepreneurs, half are randomly assigned to receive an industry specific mentor. Mentoring occurs once a week for 5 weeks, then once a month thereafter. Mentors will coach mentees on business topics using a guided curriculum. At the conclusion of the experiment, meetings may be self-sustained informally. My team will identify any increases in profits and female empowerment in the short and long run as a result of mentoring. The data collection will be 4 waves of surveys over the course of one year. The impact analysis will draw policy conclusions for future supplementary micro-finance programs.

The mission of ILUMÉXICO is to provide solar energy to individuals in rural communities throughout Mexico who do not have access to grid-based electricity. Research Activities: My research partner and I conducted a total of 50 semi-structured interviews, in Campeche, Mexico. A total of 32 individuals were interviewed regarding their satisfaction with their solar home system. The objective was to discern the similarities and differences in beneficiary experience between government program recipients and ILUMÉXICO clients. Eighteen individuals were interviewed regarding a solar cooler prototype designed by a team of Santa Clara University engineering students. Key Findings: - After-sale services increase customer satisfaction. - ILUMÉXICO has the opportunity to acquire potential new customers. - There is a market viability for the solar cooler.Deliverables:- Comparative study report.- Referral program proposal.- Solar cooler impact assessment report.
