Senior Graphic Designer
CurrentGraphic designers are the primary staff responsible for all aspects of developing graphics for theExploratorium, from ideation and research to design and production. Project work is diverse: exhibit labels, exhibition graphics, institutional signage, web and social graphics, brochures, and other institutional collateral. The Senior Graphic Designer position differs from the Graphic Designer position in its emphasis on self-direction and independent production of high-quality design work.o Execute printed labels, exhibition, and event signage.o Coordinate with designers and with vendors; handle all billing duties.o Scope work within time and budget parameters; meet project milestones and final deadlines.o Organize and coordinate design and production for special exhibitions and for large events.o Work with external stakeholders on multi-year project(s) through all design phases to ideate, design, produce, and install high-quality graphics in science institutions worldwide. Coordinate with 3D team, and Developers to ensure graphics meet architectural criteria, spatial needs of the gallery, accessibility guidelines, and dieline specifications.o Contribute to content development.o Reliably produce a wide variety of compelling and engaging design ideas.o Work closely with project leadership and project partners institution-wide, such as Development, Marketing, Membership, Public Programs, and Temporary Exhibitions, to ensure projects meet overall design and communication goals; participate in a continuing dialogue with other staff about exhibit ideas, audiences, and informal science education.o Adapt to project constraints with proactive solutions; work comfortably and productively on a range of projects and across a range of media (e.g. print, web, screen, and environmental).o Make timely design choices; show strong creative discernment and good discipline around editing of ideas. Respond to collaborators’ needs while balancing aesthetic considerations.
