Professor of Journalism Studies and Media Theory, Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City. She holds a Ph.D. in Media and Communications (Goldsmiths, University of London, 2012), an MA in Journalism Studies (Cardiff University, UK), and a BA in Social Communications (UAM-Xochimilco, Mexico City). As a mixed methods specialist (surveys, interviews, news content, and social media analysis), she has conducted and managed several research projects as a principal investigator, project manager, and team leader. She has obtained funding to conduct worldwide comparative research projects in Mexico and Bolivia, based on representative surveys of journalists, news content analysis of large datasets, and surveys with students in various universities. She produces rigorous research output in various formats, aimed at academic, specialist, and general audiences. She specializes in subjects like journalists' risk and safety; press freedom; media capture; journalistic role performance; comparative journalism cultures; Latin American media systems; journalism and labor; sports and health journalism. She provides specialized training for journalists to improve their reporting on different topics such as health crises; sports; science; court reporting; peace journalism; culture; and human rights reporting. She produced "La Clínica", a podcast for journalists aimed at improving health crisis reporting in a risk and pandemic ocntext. In her department, she has coordinated postgraduate and training programs, as well as teaching assignments for undergraduate courses. She has also organized various academic and industry events related to media industries and journalism, aimed at journalists, journalism students, fellow academics, and the general public; and has been invited to give invited talks and presentations in nine countries. She is a consultant for a number of initiatives and projects, providing expert analysis of the state of media, journalism and press freedom in Mexico and other Latin American countries.
