I am currently a PhD researcher with the Technological University of the Shannon exploring body shape, composition and weight in relation to the menopause. I previously studied Dietetics at the University of Chester, which included over 6 months training within hospital and community placement settings. After graduating, I worked for 1 year as a dietitian within the HSE at Peamount Healthcare. I gained experience in nutrition support, weight management and diabetes amongst other disciplines.I completed a research project as part of my MSc studying nutritional choices during pregnancy, and influential factors. A mixed methods approach to research was applied, making use of food frequency questionnaires and focus groups. This was a different approach to my BSc dissertation which was an observational study focusing on catering within nursery settings. I also took on the role of Course Rep throughout my undergraduate degree, acting as a link between my peers and the academic staff.Additionally, I have been involved as a volunteer in various community projects ranging from weaning workshops, to holiday hunger prevention, to youth groups, to falls prevention classes for the elderly.Alongside my studies, I have worked in a variety of settings including supermarkets, health clinics, and a dental practice, which have all increased my interest in the area of health and nutrition.
