I am responsible for the design and execution of experiments to probe the role of Cdk7 in p53-dependent cell death. I maintain accurate written documentation of experiments and prepare presentations to showcase my findings to my colleagues.
  • Icahn School Of Medicine At Mount Sinai
    Graduate Student
Icahn School Of Medicine At Mount Sinai Aug 2009 - Aug 2014
My research goal is to understand the role of growth factors in the control of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), a class of kinases responsible for cell cycle progression. CDKs and their related pathways are frequently mutated in cancers, making them attractive drug targets. I have done this using mammalian cell culture to study the expression and phosphorylation status of many different proteins in order to better understand the pathways in which they are involved. Through these studies I have gained expertise in western blotting, protein immunoprecipitation, kinase assay, flow cytometry, and qPCR. I have studied the effects of drug-induced pathway inhibition on cell proliferation with crystal violet staining and looked at the effects of protein over expression by transfection. In addition, I used immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy to study cell cycle progression, and acquired experience in cloning, mutagenesis, PCR, and protein purification.

As the Associate Regional Director of Upstate NY NCSY I coordinated operations and logistics for 5 major yearly conferences for about 75 teens from across Upstate NY and assisted in managing smaller conferences and events. To do this, I worked together with over 25 adviser volunteers and numerous community members. I solicited articles, edited, and published the weekly newsletter. I prepared educational material and implemented educational programming, both as a group facilitator and public speaker. I mentored teens as they pursed their personal and religious growth.
  • Icahn School Of Medicine At Mount Sinai
    Undergraduate Research Assistant
Icahn School Of Medicine At Mount Sinai Jun 2008 - May 2009
Research focus was the validation of a dried blood spot assay to be used to monitor levels of the biomarker chitotriosidase in patients with Gaucher disease in a more time-efficient and patient friendly manner. Results of dried blood spot assay were validated against values obtained using the established assay method and interpreted based on patient genotype. Techniques used included blood spot assay, serum assay, DNA extraction, PCR, agarose gel.
  • Yeshiva University
    Undergraduate Research Assistant
    Yeshiva University Jun 2007 - May 2008
    Stern College For Women
Research objective was to investigate the roles of 14-3-3σ and eIF4B in protein synthesis and cell growth and proliferation. Examined the effect of rapamycin, an inhibitor of mTOR, which is upstream of eIF4B, on the integrity of the 14-3-3σ /eIF4B complex. Utilized techniques including mammalian cell culture, immunoprecipitation, transfection, western blot, immunofluorescence.
