COVAX is co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi and the World Health Organization (WHO), alongside key delivery partner UNICEF. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world. As Senior Manager (Country Engagement), I establish and nurture effective relationships in English, French and Portuguese with select high priority LMICs to deliver COVAX-supported COVID-19 vaccines and related technical assistance (TA) to countries in their efforts to curb the pandemic. The work portfolio includes active engagement at global, regional and country levels in all relevant preparedness, access, delivery, administration and monitoring steps of COVID-19 vaccines and supporting technical assistance in these countries. I am equally responsible for facilitating access to HPV, PCV and RV vaccines in priority MICs and ensuring their equitable and sustainable inclusion in national routine immunization programmes. As focal point for North African middle-income countries, I also advise governments on strengthening their regional vaccine manufacturing and align with Gavi’s funding, operational and market shaping support.Selected achievements: - Managed delivery of over 110 million Covid-19 vaccines to LMICs.- Re-established access to vaccines for high risk groups in Ukraine amid conflict dynamics.-Led policy changes in LMICs towards governmental decision-making for new and sustainable vaccine introductions through advocacy and coalition building with diverse strategic partners across all governance levels.

Through the Partners’ Engagement Framework, Gavi Vaccine Alliance partners support countries’ immunisation activities. I was the lead for assuring efficiency and effectiveness of Gavi funded 'targeted country assistance' (TCA) in all Gavi eligible countries for helping to ensure optimal immunisation coverage and ensuring equity.Selected achievements:- Helped develop 5-year global policy strategy for Gavi's Partnership Engagement Framework valued at USD1 billion for implementation by over 60 non-governmental partners in over 90 countries.- Identified, documented and addressed vaccine-related technical assistance needs in priority countries via country missions and organization of multi-stakeholder in-country workshops.- Provided methodological oversight for a decentralized evaluation (including evaluability study, six country evaluations and meta-evaluation) on Gavi’s technical assistance model for improving immunization systems.- Designed stakeholder engagement strategy for improved collaboration across Gavi teams to share knowledge and identify synergies regarding all Secretariat activities related to technical health assistance.

- Lead coordinator of Stop TB´s technical support on TB case finding for Global Fund´s 13 priority countries under the Strategic Initiative to Find the Missing People with TB. (Countries: Bangladesh, DRC, India, Indonesia Kenya, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania and Ukraine). - Collaborated with WHO, USAID, Gates Foundation, Global Fund and UN agencies to ensure effective alignment of diagnostis and care suppport to countries.- Coached and supervised team of 25 subject matter experts and institutions to support the implementation of TB diagnosis and care interventions in LMICs.- Provided technical support to countries on piloting and scaling TB and TB/HIV diagnosis and care interventions for their Global Fund Funding Request development and subsequent grant implementation.- Coordinated and contributed to diverse activities around monitoring and evaluation of country performances towards meeting TB case diagnosis and treatment targets, including through establishment of process indicators, development of baseline assessments, country visits, workshops, and preparation of technical and donor reports.- Coordinated the generation of sub-national data analysis as data for action to better target TB diagnosis and treatment interventions for maximum impact in TB case detection and notification. - Disseminated results and lessons learned under the Strategic Initiative at global, regional and national conferences as well as in peer-reviewed publications.Selected achievements:Achieving the global target of diagnosing an additional 1,5 million people with TB within timeline of Global Fund's Strategic Initiative.

- Developed 5-year business and program implementation plan for TB REACH valued at USD100 million, including a result indicator framework with metadata, baseline, and targets, a theory of change, a sustainability roadmap, and a resource mobilization strategy.- Technical Lead for 10 TB REACH projects on innovative TB case detection in Africa, Asia and South America where I provided advice and technical support on different areas for improving TB diagnosis and and treatment outcomes.- Managed TB REACH grant implementation, scale up and co-financing of successful grants through effective negotiations with Global Fund senior management and other donors. - Worked with TB REACH grantees to document projects and their outcomes for the benefit of donors and the TB community at large.- Provided strategic advice to Stop TB on improving coordination and collaboration with The Global Fund to maximize impact of TB investments in high burden countries. This resulted in a MoU being signed by the Executive Directors of both Stop TB and The Global Fund.

Tb/Hiv & Community Engagement

- Led WHO global online consultation for NGOs/CSOs to participate in End TB Strategy implementation, managing application process and analyzing survey data.- Organized WHO Global Consultation Meeting in Ethiopia, including preparation of concept note, agenda, and meeting report, to increase WHO ́s engagement with external stakeholders in implementing End TB Strategy.- Prepared policy briefs,media articles and public speeches for UN Special Envoy on TB (including landmark speech for Hearing on MDR-TB at US House of Representatives).- Represented WHO in UN Envoy high-level missions to countries, UN bodies, diplomatic representations, offices of Heads of States, and other international institutions.

- Wrote strategy report for WHO ́s Research and Training in Tropical Diseases Programme (TDR) to maximize its influence via strategic engagement with select global health initiatives, and presented actionable recommendations to the Strategic and Technical Advisory Committee of TDR.

- Obtained two grants totaling over USD2 million for (1) national innovative approaches for health product science and technology, and (2) technical cooperation and capacity-building for neglected tropical diseases in Lusophone Africa.- Developed a 6-year strategy and implementation plan for aligning, coordinating, and consolidating all CTDS international cooperation projects, with targets and indicators for monitoring and evaluation.- Represented CTDS in the Technical Chamber of International Health Cooperation, a cross-departmental senior decision-making body providing strategic guidance for Fiocruz's international health cooperation projects.- Sought out and identified new opportunities for research and policy projects and collaborated with internal cross- functional teams with international projects in Africa- Expanded and consolidated North-South and South-South cooperation in science, technology and innovation in health through mutual capacity building of institutional and human resources. - Identified and initiated opportunities for cooperation between Fiocruz and public, private and philanthropic institutions worldwide, aiming to promote scientific and technological development and innovation with a focus on improving diagnosis and care in neglected diseases.- Collaborated intensively with former Fiocruz Directors and co-published article on global health governance, using as the tracer the dimension of research, development, and innovation policies in health.

- Wrote a scientific report on the connection between global health and foreign policy, including diplomatic strategies and tactics used by governments to link health issues with foreign policy goals. Commissioned by the Oslo Ministerial Group and part of the international research collaboration "Foreign Policy as Part of Global Health Challenges," which was a precursor to the "Lancet Commission on Global Governance for Health".- Organized workshops/symposiums at international and regional conferences, serving as a speaker and/or chair at events including WHO's 1st World Conference on Social Determinants of Health.
