Assist students in electing appropriate courses and develop a workable schedule. Review course placement at Vanderbilt in light of prior academic record and placement scores. Formulate an academic plan with respect to student interests, demonstrated strengths, and long-term goals. Locate and understand AXLE (liberal core) requirements. Interpret institutional policies and procedures. Identify campus resources and use them effectively. Nurture an active curiosity about the intellectual possibilities afforded by a research institution. Understand the structure of the university and its intellectual functions.

I received my PhD in May 2015. My dissertation is titled "Black Auxiliary Forces in the Eighteenth Century Atlantic World" and examines black militias from the Haitian Revolution and their entry into Central America. I have presented work at conferences including the American Historical Association, Latin American Studies Association, Southern History Association, Ethnohistory Association, the Harriet Tubman Summer Institute, and the Consortium on Revolutionary Era. I conducted research at Archivo General de CentroAmerica in Guatemala, London's National Archives, Spain's archives in Simancas and Seville and the Newberry Library archives in Chicago. I received the HASTAC Scholar Award for 2012/13 through the Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities, Newberrry Short Term Fellowship (2012), Vanderbilt's Summer Research Award (2012), Weaver Research Fellowship (2011), Harvard University’s Atlantic World Summer research grant (2010) and the Title VI Foreign Language Area Study Fellowship for Portuguese (2009). I received my B.A. from David Lipscomb University in Comparative Literature, and my M.A. from St. John's College in Annapolis, MD. I work with Dr. Jane Landers.

Assistant Instructor for history undergraduate courses such as WWII, Western Civilization, U.S. and Business, and other specialized courses; responsible for weekly student sections, grading, and student management
